    Nempimania (also Nenpimania) is an obsession with getting the best fuel economy possible from a hybrid car. It is derived from the Japanese "nempi" (燃費)--a contraction of nenryōshōhiryō (燃料消費量) meaning fuel economy, and mania, meaning "craze for." Nempimania is exhibited by owners of the Toyota Prius and other hybrid owners by various habits aimed at maximizing fuel economy: slow starts, "Pulse and Glide", timing stoplights, driving barefoot, etc.

    What is the clinical level of definition for a nempimaniac? When he drives 41 mph on the Interstate? When he drives round an empty parking lot at 10 mph to claim 86.3 mpg? When he creates complex spreadsheets and even more complex subsequent charts detailing mpg/mph/temp/rpm/Nm points? When he understands esoteric abbreviations such as DRL? When he sets priuschat.com as his home page? When he replies in this thread?

    I dated a girl once with this condition. She nearly wore me out. It sounded fun at first but sometimes you just have to give it a rest.
