Ive got a new 09' with only 250 miles driven so far. All of those miles continue to cause a burning smell like when you tar a roof. The dealer cant smell it of course..... It seems worse during longer trips. Anything to worry about? Thanks

Did you have aftermarket rustproofing or other sealant applied to the chassis area? If so, any afterspray will probably burn off soon.

If not, I suggest that you have the car raised up and look at the exhaust system to see if any debris is caught.

Yes, Toyocare package included soundproofing and undercoating. Perhaps this is the cause. Thanks!!

Had the smell on my car too when I received it (2006). It smelled like burning wax to me. I believe it's a coating of some sort that they use to protect against corrosion when the car is shipped. Took about a month or two to completely go away.

Rustproofing smells bad for a while. Best to have it done in HOT months, so it can 'burn' off faster. You'll get used to it or it will go away over time.

BUT, keep in mind, that many of those need ANNUAL check-ups and touch-ups, so you'll likely have it every year.

I agree with all the comments above. My car is 65 days old now, and the smell you mentioned is completely gone now!

Be patient, it will go away:)

Mine is a month old and has not had any odor worthy of comment. Hey, that's good isn't it ?
