    Hi all,

I just purchased a 2011 Prius III with Nav. It has just 3 miles left on the 3 year/36K bumper-to-bumper warranty! What common problems should I be looking for so that I can get them fixed under warranty while the gettin' is good?

    Thanks all!

Can you get to the dealer in less than 3 miles?

    Still good on years?

Yes, the local dealer is almost exactly 3 miles from me. Also, the warranty has another 4 months to go.

Yeah, if you can carefully flat bed it into the dealership, and then get volunteers to help you dolly it into the service bay you're good to go.

I would say, with a 3 year old Prius there are no real "common problems". But with ANY used vehicle you'd want it all checked out as fully as possible.

You're cutting it close with that warranty. Good Luck with that.

I also don't think there would be anything wrong with a 3 year old Prius. But you can check the following to make sure all is ok.

    1. Radio and dash display functions work properly
    2. All speakers work without any distortion
    3. No mystery rattles in the car
    4. No interior or exterior parts coming apart
    5. All the shocks/struts are good and not leaking
    6. No fluid leaks in the engine compartment
    7. All windows roll down properly, door locks all work.
    8. Look over the entire car to make sure you don't have any visible defects

A dealership will just fudge a few miles on the paperwork a bit to get you covered under warranty. They aren't going to fight over 5 miles.

Thanks! This is just the type of advice I was hoping for. Some of these things I thought of on my own, but your list is more complete than what I was able to think up.

welcome to priuschat! i would have them do a thorough inspection, much like they do to certify a used car. wheel hubs, brakes, suspension, undercarriage panels, brake lines, shocks/struts, axles, transaxle, water pump, air conditioning, 12 volt battery and etc. all the best!(y)

Give us your state of residence we can say something about the longer hybrid warranty...there's not much failure at the 36000 level maybe some rattles as per JC

I used JC's advice to take a close look at the car and did not find anything amiss. Then I promptly drove another 3 miles and went over the warranty limit. Wish me luck, and thanks for the advice!
