I didn't get it reading it, but I think I might have hearing it.

Do you know where abouts they are from in the US? Whenever I'm visiting down South, I get a little freaked when strangers address me as sir.

American tourists are notorious for that. Recently the crafty buggers have taken to sewing Canadian flags on their luggage, so you'll have to watch for that, Grumpy.

More than once on holiday in the US, I've been told I'm much too polite. All I do is say please, thank you, and treat people with respect. I drive a little more aggressively there than I used to, but that's just picking up bad habits from the locals. ;)

As for British humour, some of it I get, and some of it just doesn't seem funny. Red Dwarf was worth watching, as was 'Open All Hours', but Monty Python is well past its 'best before' date. My wife watches all sorts of British shows, but I don't pay much attention to the TV.

Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Arizona usually with the odd ones from New York State and Idaho (will never forget that 'Famous Potatoes' licence plate on their car! :D

And yes some of the Soldiers do refer to you as Sir which is a little freazy for us over here too.

Netflix allows the first 4 seasons to be streamed. It started just after I'd watched the season 2 and 3 DVDs. ;)

Love that show. But, I'm not a Merkin (yet).

EDIT: And, qbee, once you've watched one, Netflix will keep suggesting loads of Britcoms so I'll not even bother suggesting others. ;)

If every time a Canadian actually told that story an American actually sewed a Canadian flag on their luggage, there would be far more American tourists masquerading as Canadians than actual Canadian tourists. That would mean that Canadian tourists sterling reputation was actually based primarily on Americans masquerading as Canadians.

Oh and it's really an Irish comedy since the writer, Graham Linehan, is Irish. He was also a co-writer of Father Ted and Black Books.

I'm not known for being humour-challenged, but...sorry, no.

Father Ted. lol, that's my fav all time comedy show. It makes me laugh out loud everytime I watch it. Now if ever there is a show you should watch, Father Ted it is. Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on.

Stick with it if you've never watched it before and you'll reap dividends.

I must say though, I enjoy Wallace and Grommet and Shawn the Sheep (I have kids, OK). Figure Tom might like the later. ;)

Had a Brit as an internet friend that once lived in Bermuda.

For some reason he HATES the Miami Dolphins, and my suggestion probably gave him more passion to do it more. I asked him if it had any thing to do with the Dauphins (i.e. French Crown Prince back in the pre-revolution days.) Yes, he made jokes about "The Frogs" all the time.

    Everyone loves to hate (in a nice way) the Country south of them;

The Canadians hate the Americans, The Scots hate the English, The English hate the French, The North Koreans hate......

I wonder if this works in the southern hemisphere, or are the roles reversed?

No, we just laugh at the lot of you :D

I enjoy most British comedy, and some US comedy. Unfortunately, or so it seems to me, US comedy has a lot of slapstick which I do not find very funny. I am seeing that a number of American comedies that my children have been getting into seem to be getting better - ones like Big Bang Theory certainly get me chuckling, but I doubt that many Americans would really get shows like Blackadder.

We export this and a lot of other stuff very carefully designed to dumb down the rest of the planet. This is part of how we maintain our world dominance.

We haven't quite perfected the methods needed to prevent this from having the same influence on the domestic population.
