    Re: October MPG Averages

This tank was all interstate from Chicago to St. Louis, cruise around 72 mph. Tires all 35 psi

    Tank Miles: 314.4
    Total Miles: 1446
    Tank MPG: 42.1
    Avg Temp: 70s
    Price of Tank: $15
Price per Gal: $1.97 (a bit lower in MO than IL)

At this point I changed the tire pressure to John-like levels and things improved.

    Re: October MPG Averages

This was also all interstate from St. Louis to Chicago. Two things were different from the previous tank:

    Tailwind instead of headwind
Tire pressure finally increased to 42 front, 40 rear as discussed elsewhere

    Tank Miles: 353.8
    Total Miles: 1800
    Tank MPG: 49.6 (much improved!)
    Lifetime MPG: 46.97
    Avg Temp: 60s
    Price of Tank: $15
    Price per Gal: $2.02

I don't think I'll get to fill it again this month.

I did, Nov. 2 with little or no November driving.
Tire pressure decreased to 40 front, 38 rear. Half highway and half residential area.
    Tank Miles: 419.6
    Total Miles: 2220
    Tank MPG: 46.0
    Lifetime MPG: 46.80
    Avg Temp: 60s

    1 block flashing at 831kms.
    Filled up today.
    Tank kms ........ 857
    Overall kms.....6200
    Rate .............$1.045 / Litre
    Cost .............$48-53
    Litres ............ 46.54 ****
    Calculated L/100 = 5.4
    Displayed L/100 = 5.0

    **** Impossible!!!
Suspect gas pump, Prius tank is 45 Litres capacity (no bladder) and I would have still had 1 to 2 litres left, so it should only have taken about 44 litres max.!
When it hit 45 I expected to get drenched with overflow, thinking that the cutout wasn't working.
Will stay away from that place in future.

Batavier, that first tank looks somewhat suspect: $43/$3.41 = 12.6 gallons! Perhaps you filled a 4 liter container for emergency purposes at the same time?

LOL, indeed. Lemme check my spreadsheet... :) Perhaps I need to put non-metric values in it as well. I think my calculations were off...

EDIT: Nope, I don't think that's it. What is shown there as average price is the average lifetime price, not the price for that tank. I've changed it a bit, I hope I converted all figures correctly now. :?

UK models don't have the infernal bladder in the tank, hence the extra capacity?

Indeed, European models don't have the bladder, but I 'm not sure if there's more capacity: 45 litre (11.89 US gallon). I managed to get a tad over 46 litre in once, but it was filled to the rim, so there probably were one or two litres in the filling pipe.

I'm not getting better than 38 mpg (U.S.) . Isn't it supposed to be better?
