I was at the mall using the 110v connection. When I came back to the car there was a volt parked in the other EV space. His charge port was open but the car was not connected. I'm not sure if his EVSE had been swiped or if he thought that mine was part of the station and wanted me to plug him in.

That may have been an innovative way of saying "Please sir, may I have some amp-hours?"

That was my thought but this charging station just has four 110v outlets, no jplgs so there was no way to plug him in when I was leaving

Interesting to learn that there are some public charging stations that are just outlets w/o a plug for cars requiring you to use your own cord & plug. I'll have to keep an eye out for those. I have only seen ChargePoint (wife's work).

At my work (we have 10 J1772 handles for L2 charging but way more EVs/PHEVs), the convention is to leave your charge port door open if you want someone to plug you in. This "convention" is listed on our internal web page for PHEVs/EVs.

In 2 of the areas, there are 4 EV parking spaces but only 3 J1772 handles + a 120 volt outlet under a door. In another area, there are 4 EV parking spaces but only 2 J1772 handles.

As I understand it, the standard in UK/Europe is that public charging stations only provide a receptacle. The EV owner always has to provide their own plug. We are spoiled in North America with J1772 and fast charger stations that provide a plug. :)

I was at Whole Foods in Beverly Hills today. There is a city owned garage next door with an elevator that takes you directly into the store. They have 4 EV parking spaces but only 2 chargers. The funny thing is that there are signs saying you must be connected for charging otherwise you can be ticketed. There is usually a PIP that squats at one of the chargers and a Volt at the other. Today There was a Fiat in the space next to the PIP. The Fiat was charging while the PIP's charger door was open. Again not sure if the PIP was there last and just wanted the 500e driver to plug him in or if the 500e driver had disconnected the PIP.

Wow, in LA, the outcome of that situation could become heated in a hurry depending on the facts.

When using a Public Charge Station, do the Handles have the Locking Hole that would allow you to use a Luggage Lock? Few people have bolt cutters in their car !!!

Nice, no block on the EVSE cord. I understand it's 220-240V all the way through, but doesn't the EVSE provide additional protection with GFCI and more?

Maybe it's built into the charging post in the UK.

And a nice cover over the plug in the charging port.

Interesting... too bad we couldn't get a close look at the connector on the post side.

My Nissan Leaf Forum • View topic - Copper wire thieves mentions "bring your own cable" in the form of Mennekes. I wonder if that's what's portrayed in the video.

Was this just a prototype PIP. The symbol on the hatch was for the non-Plug-in. It didn't have the Plug-In Synergy Plug.

And did the power outlet lock when closed, waiting for only your fob , to keep another from removing the cable.

The extra cover of the charge port doesn't seem to have a purpose, since it needs to be closed when the charge port door is closed and it needs to be opened to charge the PIP.

Did you also notice that the charge post is in front of the Passenger door?

It was a prototype. The cover on the charge port seems to be a good idea for keeping water out of the port.
