Ah ha! I got the numbers from the video that adsam posted on Youtube

    Seat Up:
    21.46 Cu. Ft.

    Seat Down:
    39.60 Cu. Ft.

    Under Tonneau Cover:
10.24 Cu. Ft. (+0.5 cu. ft.)

    Underfloor Bin:
1.98 Cu. Ft. (+0.5 cu. ft.)

Edit: On the other hand, the Prius is rated at 15.7 cu. ft. in Canada (which sounds more reasonable).

If you remove the cover but leave the underfloor bin, you have 31.7 cu.ft. Wow!

    Tideland,
What would be the conversion table used to convert to Litres,as a Taxi here in Ireland the minimum cargo area[not including spare wheel space]must be 420 Litres,Prius comes in at 408 Litres but was given a dispensation because of it's environmental contribution.

I found the European Prius Info thread that was posted a while back,
Luggage capacity has increased by 30 litres to 440 Litres using the VDA method which is the way they calculate whether a car is acceptable or not.

I like how Toyota decided to add a place in the lower storage compartment specifically designed to hold the tonneau cover. Very nicely done!

There already is one in my 2008 Prius. You open the rear box cover, lift up the support arm, slide the left-hand end of the tonneau cover under the left-hand rear corner box cover and put the right-hand end in the notch on the right-hand side lip of the rear box.

Nikki has the same in her 2004 Prius:

    Re: Official Cargo Capacity

Something is dead wrong here, and I would much appreciate any help to understand this.

When you say "seats up" you are referring to the space between the cargo floor (above underfloor bin) up to the window glass?

When you say "seats down" you are referring to the space between the cargo floor and the front seats (rear seats down) and up to the roof or what?

I think "Under Tonneau Cover" has no mis-interpretations...

So how come we have these HUGE differences here:

    EU under parcel tray = 356 L
    USA Under Tonneau Cover = 290 L (you miss 66 L)

EU full to the window = 440 L
USA seats up = 607 L (now you come up with +167 L!)

Can someone make sense out of this? I confess I'm lost here.
How can the VDA and the SAE methods differ by such a large ammount???

No idea. I still can't see 21 cu ft in the 3rd Gen even to the rear window.

    Re: Official Cargo Capacity

anyone have actual measurements for the under floor bin as far as the height? Have some things i'd like to store under there semi permanantly and would like to know if they'll fit before actually sticking them in there. and if they don't fit finding suitable replacements ahead of time.

Ok.. hold up. On the Canadian spec Prius, it's rated at 15.7 cu. ft. which sounds more reasonable. I'm guessing that's to the height of the tonneau cover?
