It takes a 64mm filter wrench to work with the Toyota filter housing. A standard 65mm will slip.

I bought mine from eBay but you can also get it from your Toyota dealer.

I have a box (10 Filters) of Toyota (OEM) for 2010 Prius. Part # 04152-YZZA6, that I would like to sell. $35.00 and I'll pay shipping in the USA.

    If interested, let me know.

    Thanks

I was just out checking out the MAC tools truck and they had a 64mm filter socket for Toyota, it was priced under $20.00.

There are a few oil manufacturers making 0W-20 oil, Mobile1 0W-20 should be readily available, also Toyota 0W-20 should be available for sale at your dealership.

Check out AMSOIL I have used it all my cars over the years and the synthetic 0 -20 I use is good for 25K but Toyota recommends 15K or 1 year with the long life filter. Great products!

    Re: Oil Change 2010 Prius - Mobil 0W -30

I was at Walmart today looking for 0W-20 Mobil 1. All I found was either 0W-30 or 5W-20. I think that the Mobil 0W-30 is my best choice.

Any comments? I am planning my oil and filter at 1200 miles. Call me old fashion.

Stick a crowbar in your wallet and get 0W20 from another store.
If you're at 1.2K, you have time to look.

    Good Luck!

    Re: Oil Change 2010 Prius - Mobil 0W -30

You are going to likely do damage with the wrong oil in a misguided attempt to prolong the engine life with a 1200 mile oil change. You are better off leaving it alone until 10K.
Use the correct oil if you want to change it. Not every Walmart has the same selection of oil.
Ask an employee to look up where the nearest Walmart with 0W-20 is or go somewhere else.
It isn't as if the Prius is the only car made that uses 0W-20, but you will have to shop around to find it since it still isn't a popular oil weight yet.

Try NAPA Auto Parts I have been able to find Mobil 1 0W20 there, sometimes even on sale for $5 a quart. If they don't have it in stock they will order it for you.

Most of us, including me, are sticking with 0W20 because it provides slightly better fuel economy and it flows a little better when cold. I am told most engine wear occurs when the engine is first started from cold due to the oil being to thick for proper flow. 0W20 is a bit thinner at cold temperatures than 0W30.

But 0W30 is probably not going to hurt anything, the owner's manual even gives tacit approval to use heavier oil under certain unspecified conditions. If 0W30 was going to cause damage they would not do so. But why not use 0W20?

BTW there are rumors of a 0W10 oil being developed by Shell!

I have changed my mind about oil viscosities, I no longer think thicker is better. But I still think an early oil change is a good idea, I changed mine at 1500.

I agree.. I use Amsoil SSO 10W - 30.. rated to 35K miles... I only run mine to 25K.. but test are excellent.
I live in the south... I think 20W oil would be too thick for all seasons.

You can pick up Toyota 0W20 oil, along with filter and drain plug washer, from any dealership parts department. The oil's around $6 per liter in Canada, likely cheaper per quart in the States.

I have not ever seen any approval of 0W-30. Temporary use of 5W-20 for up to 5K miles one time and then right back to 0W-20 was the only thing I've seen.

This is the statement I was referring to, it is on page 560.

"The 20 in 0W-20 indicates the oil viscosity when the oil is at its operating temperature. An oil with a higher viscosity may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions."

Generally, when it comes to a technical feature, they are more technical and specific than that. That sounds like something that was thrown into the manual as a glossary term to explain oil viscosity numbers.
They have listed the approved oils specifically. 0W-20 is the recommended oil and not seeing it at the most convenient Walmart location is not a reason to substitute.
Very poor statement in the manual. Who drives their Prius at "high speeds" and "extreme load conditions?" Pulling a trailer on a race track? Commuting daily at 95 MPH in Montana?

It may be that Toyota is to cheap to write a whole new owner's manual for each new vehicle. Stuff like that gets put in because they "cut and paste" items from other vehicle manuals and the proof readers and editors, if they have any, don't catch the errors. We have seen other statements in this owner's manual that obviously didn't apply to the Prius.

Could also be there to cover dealers who use the wrong oil. The other possibility is that 0W20 really doesn't protect well enough under some conditions, but if that's true, as you point out, they should explain what they are referring to.

The service manager at the local dealership is pretty sharp, I'll ask him if he has any insight into what they actually mean.

I do believe that if any one wanted to use heavier oil, 0W30 or 5W30 for example, this statement would cover them as far as the warranty is concerned.
