I do agree the pricing is very erratic, especially for the complete engine. Anyone with good skills could easily build up a practically new engine complete for less than 3 to 4K in my book. But that is what they show.

Changed oil last Friday.. Added a quart last night.....*sigh*

Debt is dumb; cash is king ...and the paid off home mortgage has taken the place of the BMW as the status symbol of choice.

I was just looking at my excel sheet I keep. It seems almost like clockwork - every 3,000 miles Im having to add 1/4 quart of oil. I have 79,000 miles right now.

Compared to what I have read on the site, Ill take it. Not looking forward to adding quart(s) of oil between oil changes, once my mileage gets up there. And the oil burning issue sounds to be not one of those "if" things, but "when".

Hi PriusGuy. I'm currently just over 125k miles (203000 km) and my oil consumption is fairly similar. Mine is about a quarter of a liter every 2500 miles, and it's also like clockwork. I often joke that if my odo stopped working I could still log my mileage by just looking at the dipstick.

BTW. Mine doesn't seem to have increased much in the last few years. :)

Now I'm adding a quart every week about 679 miles...

Go and get some "seafoam" and add to your oil. Seafoam works like MMO, mentioned on other post, but I think it works a bit faster. Are you using 5w-30 oil?

the amount of oil you are burning, you are probably going to need a new engine soon. The seafoam "may" help a little (meaning from 1qt/679 mi to possibly 1qt/1000 or 1200 mi), but getting another engine is probably in your near future.

If that's the case, add seafoam and keep adding oil when needed. When you get people looking at you funny from all the smog you are blowing out the back.....time to trade it in.

Funny thing is, there is no blue smoke coming from the tail pipe (exhaust) No oil leaks (checked several times by mechanics)

I was told the Catalytic converter is most likely catching it all, and will fail very soon at this rate...

Try the seafoam and let us know if there's improvement. A local hybrid shop owner tried it on his customer's cars and it showed a lot of improvement.

Don't use seafoam. If you don't want to swap out the engine, then sell your car as is while it still runs.

Why risk making the problem worse. Unless you want a 3000 lb paperweight.

What's wrong with seafoam? MMO? Used to clean gummed up oil rings?

Nothing baffling about burning oil at 200k miles. If it still drives Ok, just keep adding oil. At 1qt every 650 miles, it's still considered normal for Toyota. Pretty crazy eh?
