"Oil Maintenance Required" Notification After Only 5K Miles??

    Hello,

    I have a 2010 Prius that I bought used this past Fall (2013). I have only had the oil changed once and it was at the local Toyota dealer. The service adviser told me the interval was 10k miles however, the "Oil Maintenance Required" notification is flashing on my dash at only 5k miles since the last change.

    Is this a standard preset notification that trips automatically at 5k miles or does the computer measure the quality of the oil and it is telling me that the oil is shot and I need to change it now?!?

    standard, unfortunately. the manual has reset instructions.

    I see 'Maint Reqd' in my Gen 2 and v, are you sure it mentions oil?
    There is a Maintenance required every 5,000 miles, tire rotation.

    JimboPalmer: It clearly says "Oil Maintenance Required" on the info screen.

    You have the first screen on here that says Oil Maintenance Required. Where are you located?

    My 2010 only says Maintenance Requied.

    Isn't that user configurable on the Maintenance section of the setup screen? It's a separate reminder that can be set for oil change, tire rotation, filter replacement etc. I can't remember what all was on that screen.

    You are right. I forgot about the Maintenance Menu in Setup. It has about a dozen different items you can configure either on date or mileage.

    Toyota's original oil change interval was 5000 miles. This was changed to 10000 miles in 2009 but they didn't change the reminder. If you have a nav unit there is a Maintenance Mode that can be used to set reminders and adjust any number of things.

    If I set anything in Maintenance Mode I'm not sure I'd remember to clear it when selling the car. I'd remember to clear the nav data because that's in my face.

    You still have to bring in the prius for other inspection but not an oil change. Oil change is 10,000 mi or 1 year.What
    ever comes first if they are using the 0-20 synthetic oil.

    my 2010 Prius Two says oil maintenance required at the 5000 mile mark. I do take the car in for the tires to be rotated and for a check of fluid levels. Probably most people here can do the latter themselves.
