I agree:( but I use the radio every day. I also thought if we could bring some order to the radio screen then the others may not be as bad.

Here's a version assuming we have to leave the type in the same position and size it is currently. If we could change some font size and colors independantly :)D Hi Bulle) then we could really clean it up. I used Bulle's template and laid in the dynamic text from looking at a photo then matched the postion to the fields in the template. I think the sizing is pretty close on most text. The original OttoNavi screens have way too many colored buttons in my opinion so the screen gets confusing to look at. I tried to get rid of some overdone buttons, frames and rules. This version is HEAVILY influenced be the Pioneer App Radio interface.

Bulle you'll have to tell me how the text color is controlled.

    that is beautiful...

I wonder if a script is controlling the text color when pushed. Probably got to hack the unit to find it. :(

You guys are so amazing; this is all beautiful!
We are already so far away from the kiddie stuff.
Nice work Clay! I love it.
And Dehhh's WindowsMetro is really neat too.
That's going to seriously fool a few people the first time they see it.
Can't wait to see them all finished.

    SOME NEWS
So I finally found a way out for testing a heavily changed rrui without breaking the unit.
(there's no real danger but better be safe than sorry...)
So I should start working on our mods to see how far we can change things.
Give me a couple of days; I should know pretty soon.

    ABOUT FONTS
We can not change the font neither the labeling. Not even sure it's possible.
But we can probably change the size and colors.
Each element (including text) has (apparently; not fully tested) 3 colors: normal state, selected state and touch state.
But may be we can also get away by just adding our own elements with pictures and/or our labeling.
And disable somehow the static elements we don't want (like the clock or labels).
Just FYI, this is all data driven by the RRUI file, there is no scripts anywhere.

    WHAT'S NEXT
So the radio, I agree, would be a very likely next candidate.
Although, just my 2 cents, I would prefer to have a coherent set of icons first.
(Just because it looks silly when you switch to the Apps screen...)
You guys decide according to your motivation.
But know that if you do the radio now, you will probably want to redo it after if we can change positions.

    ABOUT THE TOOL
    It's coming along.
I can pretty much load a rrui, change the art in Photoshop in the background and then check real-time if all the screens look OK.
I'm thinking of releasing it to you guys very soon.
So if you feel like it, you would be able to change the whole art very quickly.
    Here's a screenshot...
BTW do you guys have a Windows gig with .NETFramework 3.5 or higher?

Next step would be to be able to create the RRUI on the fly by editing the screen directly...
Now that one is going to take a while! But very feasible.

So for creating RRUI file it's still hexadecimal editing and command line for a little while...

Wow! I posted my screen and went to be and wake up to find out we were all busy last night.

Bulle that tool is exactly what I need.

As for the type color. As I recall it was orange in the original interface and once the graphics were changed to blue the type has now changed. Is it possible that it's using a graphic to determine type color?

As for the icons I wanted to get a feel for the screen designs. That may have an influence on how the other icons are designed.

Just a little magic I did. The command line tool can also convert all the colors parameters for each element to the hue you want.
There's like a little micro-Photoshop inside he he.
I did a gray RRUI for Dehhh this way.

@Dehhh: possible for you to show us how Gray and Metro look like???

lol; the gray one looks like and old retro TV. Could be cool for rainy days...
May be it would be better to use a light cyan to match the dash LCDs...

But the Metro has some punch!

I agree with the light cyan, that's what I was going for in the radio screen. It has better contrast so it's more legible.

Love the Metro! Dehhh did you make new digital clock numbers? It lookd so much better.

    Sure, here's a recap:

Here are the two versions I have done with Bulle:

You will want Bulle's theme Metal.rrui

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6709347/Metal.zip

Then you will use one of these wallpapers:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6709347/Clayfree_wallpapers.zip

Install is easy. Put the files on a usb drive. Go to system settings under theme and browse to "Metal2.rrui" and the new theme will load. Then under wallpaper browse to either one(Black Grill or Wood) and select it. Enjoy!

So basically...download from the link your gonna post the files onto an sd card and the file from the second link and upload it onto the unit?

Will I need to have the usb drive connected the whole time or once i copy over format it will save?

Yes that's correct. I just updated the links so that should be all you need. It looks like the theme copies over but I'm not sure about the wallpaper. My USB is always connected so I've never tested that. Bulle can probably answer where files are stored.

Hey Bulle, if we can just use the tool for previewing graphics then that's a big help for now. I will be delighted to send them back to you for the build :D. The good new is you should receive graphics that work the first time.

Hopefully the next version you release will let us design new themes with a GUI on our touchscreens while we're driving

Geez I never thought about that! Yes, it's true, we can make the tool available on the unit itself! Man you're dangerous! lol

Tool: it's coming... bare with me.

So yes, after loading a new skin, it get copied to the unit memory.
So no need to leave it on your SD card or USB when it's in.
