Does the Prius have an outside temperature reading?
If so, where is it located?

Have any of you new Prius owners noticed if the outside temperature reads in Celsius degrees? I know it will display in °F, but with the Gen II, the actual temperature sensor is a Celsius unit. As a result, the displayed temperature jumps by about two degrees at a time, since the ratio is 1.8 to 1.

Even at -40, a 1C step equals a 1.8F step.

The conversion from Fahrenheit to Celsius is: Celsius = (Fahrenheit - 32) / 1.8

A change of 1 degree Farhrenheit = 1.8 degrees Celsius.

There is not a "ratio" of Celsius to Fahrenheit temperatures since you must subtract 32 before dividing by 1.8.

So, indeed, -40 degrees F = - 40 degrees C ((-40 - 32) / 1.8 = -40).

Indyking, I must say that I am surprised, and pleasantly so. I fully expected to open this thread today and see a reply full of aggression and vitriol. I was going to do my best to avoid getting snotty, although sometimes you bring out the worst in me. That was all a needless worry.

It's always good to learn something new, which is one of the reasons I enjoy PC. Even when providing answers I often learn new things. This site benefits from a large number of smart members.

Getting back to your comment, I suspect the confusion came from degrees verses temperature. The ratio of Fahrenheit degrees to Celsius degrees is always 1.8 to 1. The conversion of Celsius temperature to Fahrenheit temperature is what follows the formula 1.8*C = F - 32. Note that this formula includes both the 1.8 degree ratio plus the 32 degree offset.
