I find myself quickly scrolling *PAST* posts which utilize the NERVOUS, GREATLY ANIMATED emoticons or graphics. I find them very distracting reducing the value of the information posted. I suppose I rob myself of the information in those posts... just find the graphics too distracting. Seems like a kid acting out as if to say "HEY, LOOK AT ME!"

There are also some "signatures" or avatars which have the same characteristics.

These are the ones I mean:

SIGH.... My "gripe" of the day.....

My brother used to always say, "never tell people what you hate; they will, without fail, make sure you see a lot more of it."

Charles, if you're using IE, you can easily stop the animation.

Got to TOOLS-->INTERNET OPTIONS then click on the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to "Multimedia" and untick the "Play animations in web pages" box.

You'll still see those emoticons but they won't be hopping around all over the joint (although, the ones in Tony's post will still scroll across the screen). :)

:) Hi Tony... Actually, I don't *HATE* the animated emoticons and graphics... I just *SCROLL PAST* and miss any useful or practical information the post-er had to offer. So the post-er doesn't get his/her message across to me.

Since I use FireFox, I don't have the option of disabling the animations. I get less AdWare with FireFox, thus less "cleanup" duty after an online session. Guess I *COULD* go back to IE... but I do feel a little more secure with FireFox. :)

I hope you got the impression of just how much I was laughing when I made my post.

If you want t real stramlined PriusChat experience, consider the Archive. When I've been away for a while and want to catch up on a whole bunch of threads, I head there because there are no avators, no animations, and basically no frills. There are also no attachments or pictures, but you can switch back to "normal" viewing just for those threads as needed.

The one thing that I wish the archive did is the "View posts since last visit". But they are listed in the order of last posting. I think.

Give it a go and see what you think.

You also might want to do what I do when I see a lot of animated gifs on a page - just hit the escape key and it stops them dead in their tracks.

But you can disable the loading of images (works even better, IMHO).

TOOLS-->OPTIONS then click "Web Features" and untick the "Load Images" box.

well, IMHO, what we have here is a case of people on here with... shall we say... size deficiencies... having opted for the prius, need some other way besides buying a corvette to establish their manhood...

This is why I use a browser with this option: [IMG]

Sure you do! In a browser window, go to the address about:config . In the filter box, enter 'image'. One of the options should be image.animation_mode. Double click it and change it to "once". (I think "never" is valid if you don't want them to animate at all... not sure on any other words to put there)

[Edit: Removed the url tags around about:config as phpbb refuses to linkify about: urls]

    I'm not sure.

    Let me check.

Yes, I think that refers to me. :)

FourOhFour, that works perfectly. Thanks. Sometimes I like the animations (just for the fun side of it all). It's goo dto know how to switch back and forth.
