Hey everyone - I just wanted to share my experience of Plasti-dipping my rims white.

Plasti-dip is a spray on rubber-like coating. It is totally removable. I decided to black-out my emblems and turn my rims white. You can get it at Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes.

I originally did one can, which gave me 4-5 coats per rim. However, a few months later I bought another can and did another 4-5 coats per rim.

It's quite simple, but the prep takes the majority of the time. It's important to get plastic bags behind the rims to protect the brakes and calipers. Also, cover up your bolts for your rims. Last, make sure to prevent against overspray on your tire. It's important to put something, I used masking tape, between the rim and the wheel so there is no way it can get onto the tire right outside of the rim.

I have attached a few before, after, and during pictures.

    Enjoy!

    Looks awesome! (y)

How durable is the PD as far as cleaning the brake dust and crud that normally accumulates on the wheels?

With all the time spent masking, I would've taken the wheels off the car.

It's honestly not too difficult. Obviously, white rims are going to be showing some dirt and brake dust more than say silver rims would. However, a spray with a decent powered water hose would take care of a decent majority of it. If they're really dirty, I would spray a product called Simply Green onto the rims, which is safe for Plasti-Dip, let it sit, and rinse it off.

There ARE better products to clean the rims with besides a common household cleaner, but I didn't want to have to order something online and this gets the job done fairly well.

I think you should PD your side mirror bases/mounts as well. The black is standing out now. ;)

Thanks for the feedback! I honestly like the contrast that the car has, white and black, with the rims white. I'm sure something else may get transformed eventually, but I'm going to cool off for now!

They may be 15", but in theory with them white it should make them look bigger!

ive got the exact car/color... with the white rims. it really highlights the size of the gap from the fender to the rim.

I like the look.. but think about how much 2 " would change the look, or even lowering the car...

    would make a huge difference..

You're right about that, but for the <$5 cost/can - I think this is a great bang for your buck modification.

Thank you Bingee! I appreciate your feedback!

You should add the Plastidip Pearlizer to those to match the BP color. From the photos, it looks like it a close match though. Good job. That took a lot of patience!!

    Love the white on white!

Can you let us know after driving for a while how much dust and dirt sticks to it and how difficult it was to wash off?

I'm sure many of us want to do this but worry about the maintenance on white wheels.

Can you go over your steps in doing this? I'd do the wheels unmounted, but how do you deal with things like tire balance weights?
