When we took delivery of our 2012 Prius Plug-in the charging cable was just wound up by hand and placed in the back of the car in the special compartment designed for it. However, I swore I have seen a device (either wood or plastic) that would have been used to wind the cable on to it which would make it easier to handle the cable. However, that was not included. I would like to know whether you received such a device with the car. And if it was included, does it have a Toyota Part number on it? If it is easy to do could you include a picture of it too? Much appreciated for any feedback. Cheers
Sorry but I have never heard of nor seen a Toyota sold device like the one you speak of. I don't even know if it is really necessary. Compared to the cable which was included with the prototype 2010 plug in the new cable is quite flexible and 'loops' very easily into a circle for storage.
Here's my professionally-installed, top-of-the-line charger organizer. Not visible is the premium quality zip tie which provides strain relief between the outlet and the cable.
Nice. Very nice. Do you have anything made up to organize the cable to store it in the car? What I thought I saw was a device with a handle on it so you could wind up the cable onto it then place the whole thing into the car. Anyone ever see such an animal? Cheers
Rather than a device to just wind up the cable, which isn't all that long, just roll it up by hand (takes several seconds) and if you want to keep it wound neatly, use 2 of these velcro tie cord organizera: Grip Strip™ Cord Organizers Just a suggestion. Maybe what you're thinking of is something like the Volt evse where the cord wraps around it:

Dianne, thank you for that definitive answer whether they ever came with something like I was describing.
Good find. Better price but for the life of me I don't understand why these have to be so dog gone expensive. I mean it's only a battery charging system.
I agree Bisco, Which is why I said a few posts earlier just wrap it into a circle by hand (mine pretty much takes its shape by itself wrapping it into a circle in a few seconds) and then if he wants it to keep from unwrapping use these. Grip Strip™ Cord Organizers \ Or just wrap it and throw it into the bag Toyota sent us for buying a PiP through the order system...
I use the mid-size CordPro cable reel for my PiP EVSE. URL: Cordpro.com - Reels that make sense. I use the CordPro XL for my 240-volt Level 2 cable.
Sadly, the Volt's EVSE (all 3 versions) are not compatible with the PiP. I do like the built-in cord management that the Volt's EVSE has, plus the ability to select 8A or 12A charging. I wish the PiP's EVSE had that design.
Whoa, what makes the Volt charging system incompatible? To my knowledge the connectors which connect to the vehicle are identical. Why on earth would anyone design anything with the same interface not be compatible? It would be like having the regular 110 volt plug system we all use every day not be the same because you want to use a toaster instead of a television set. This doesn't make any sense.
