So now that we know for a fact that the 2010 will have a plugin option, (even though it arrive on the market later in the year), does anyone know if that implies that the plugin models will have an EV mode switch? I mean without the ability to go all electric, having a fully charged battery in the morning only boosts mpg marginally.

All of the 2010s have an EV switch. We saw them in Detroit.

Yup, note the bottom of the center cluster, right next to the ECO button and the PWR Mode. I think the thing that's still a bit up in the air is whether there really will be a PHEV.

The PHEV will not be "on the market" in 2010. Fleet only to start with. I would expect the car to control how much EV range you have - not the button.

I just sat in one at the Chicago Auto show last night and it had the button marked EV, don't know if it will make production, but it was on the car at the show.

Ok am I missing something? I never have heard that plug in's would be available as an option on the 2010. They WILL be releasing 500 plug ins in the US for 2010 but only to FLEET sales.

Also, all the 2010's will have an EV button in them, or at least it was my understanding they would. It would only allow the car to run 1/2 to 1 mile on electric depending upon road and driving conditions.

I can't believe the number of times I refrain from posting because it might offend. Must be getting old.

To who are you concerned about offending if you were to reply?

Paradox, you are the closest to correct. The 500 Plug-ins will be a demonstration program for learnings, they will not be sold to the general market, they are only available to our fleet customers for testing. I believe the 500 is a worldwide figure, only 150 are expected in the US. See Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Maintains Pace, Broadens Scope Of Advanced Environmental Technologies / Toyota for the official announcement.

The EV mode will indeed be standard at launch for the 2010 Prius (see Doug's packaging details for Prius II, III, IV and V on the 2010 Forum for confirmation that EV mode is there).

Hey! Where's the love for ol' Darell? Can anybody else see my posts besides Pat and myself? :)

I answered the OP's questions, and don't think I went out to left field!

Now worries though. I'm used to only being loved by Pat.
