Potential Extended Downtime Coming

    I've been testing a conversion of the current PC forum software to a new software (vbulletin) and things have gone pretty well. However, with the amount of data in the database, the conversion will probably take up to 12 hours and during that time the forums will have to be completely shut down.

    So, I'm not completely sure what day I'm going to do the conversion yet, but it's coming soon. Perhaps this weekend (starting Friday night) since that's a fairly slow time on the boards anyway.

    So, if you see a message that the forums are closed or if you just find that the site is not coming up, give it a little bit of time and check in again. I'll send out an email to the userbase to let everyone know when the site is back up and ready for action.

    This site upgrade should take care of our server performance issues and put us in a better position for future expansion with the site and the information that is housed here.

    Or now that I think about it, perhaps while Priuschat is down, it would be a great opportunity for all of us to head on over to HybridChat.com and see what that's all about. I hear there are a bunch of smug hybrid owners who claim that Prius owners don't know the difference between a glide and a hole in the ground.

    apriusfan has a good idea. I sometimes forget to check PC often enough, so I might have missed this thread. Obviously, since I'm posting I haven't, so if the site is down, I'll know why. Perhaps a mass email and a note at the top of the page stating when the upgrade will happen. That way everyone will know. The email regarding the return of PC is a good idea too.

    Well, you will probably notice at the top of the page there is a little love letter from me letting everyone that tonight I'm going to give the update a go. I figure tonight most red-blooded Americans are either going to be watching the Packers/Cowboys game or finding a bar where they are actually showing the game (if you're on cable like me - damned TWC!). So, while I watch it streaming online, I'll take the board down around 9pm and start on the conversion. Hopefully then the site can be back up in the morning.

    It may not be perfect to begin with, but hopefully it will perform better than IPB has been performing lately.

    I'll leave the site in Read-Only mode for as long as possible so that everyone can take the time to catch up on posts.
