I have a 2014 Prius that needs a replacement 12v battery. After doing some googling, I came across the
Optima 8171-767-FFP (DS46B24R) YellowTop Prius Battery on amazon that claims to be compatible with Prius models 2004+. However, I'm not entirely sure if it's compatible with my model, with is fairly new. I would appreciate any help with this.

I'd be seriously looking at other AGM brands. There are many more choices, and some of them might be more "optimal."

if you have a bad 12volt in your 2014, it's under warranty and free from a dealer.

Agreed, no reason to replace the battery on your dime on a 2014. It's under warranty. Besides IMO Optima's are not the best anymore. OEM rules.

A dealer could claim you abused a new battery by letting it go dead, and refuse to replace it. Mine was in bad shape when I took delivery, so they replaced it free of charge.

This is the one that I will probably buy, when I need one.

You cant beat the FULL four year replacement warranty. And, they INSTALL.

SLI51PAGM Duracell Ultra Platinum AGM Battery
    - 2010 to 2014 L4 1.8L 325CCA Hybrid - Prius - Toyota - Car and Truck - Batteries Plus

    Batteries generally last 3-4 years.

More importantly, they fail often in the Summer on a road trip.

Finding someone to honor the warranty in a remote location might be a problem.

Batteries+ bulbs are popping up everywhere. There's one a quarter mile down the street from my house.

Do you have any test data on that battery? It's easy to engineer a short lifespan into a battery, that should normally last over 10 years.

Ya optima is no good anymore. My dad had one from the 90s that lasted 15 years before it was no good (it was a blem he bought when I was 4 at their plant in colorado. We replaced it and the one we replaced it is starting to fail three years later.) I would get the OEM or an Oddessy (if they had one for prii).

It's the old bait-and-switch trick. Build up a good reputation, and then squander all the customer loyalty for a quick buck.

    Happens all the time.

Batteries degrade with heat and cold and age.

A NEW mid-price battery is as good as or better than a premium four year old battery.

I'd buy the cheapest mid-grade four battery with the longest FULL replacement warranty that is supported with an EASY and available claim process, where the warranty WILL be readily honored.

You can abuse a battery all you want during warranty, if it fails a load test, you get a new one.

Bought my wife a 2010 rav4 sport brand new. 24 months later the factory battery was failing. Had it replaced under factory warranty with a new true start. That battery failed just two years later as well. Technically the first replacement is not warrantied per dealer but a friend at the dealership managed to pull it off somehow and now we have another new truestart. I also own a 2013 Tundra that has only 20k miles on it and my engine compartment looks like a 150,000 mile car that was driven through hell and back because the battery is leaking. Already had the hold down replaced by the dealer because the original corroded so badly. And I live in colorado where there isn't any humidity and we don't salt our roads. I don't even know what the battery looks like on the prius only because it is covered up in my trunk!

Also...truestarts are only covered for 24 month full replacement. After that they are prorated.

I Just had the dealer do it on the 2009. Most of the after market stuff has to be jerry rigged on the cables. Like no one would screw that up eh! Or do they make an exact after market replacement?

If I'm paying $200-$400 an AGM battery, a 24 month warranty is dismal.

I'll bet most of the battery "failures" are caused by water loss. After two to three years you will notice the battery has very low capacity. They don't have "gas recombinant" caps and convert the water to H2 and O2 and that escapes through the vent hose. Eventually you run out of water!

For example, Pearl, a 2007 Prius, began to exhibit battery problems after three years. So I removed the battery and took it into the basement for "surgery". Pealed the label off and found "fill holes" with plugs underneath. Added enough water that there was a bit of liquid above the mat in each cell. Replaced the label to ensure the venting still worked as designed and ran the high tech charger on it overnight to "stir" the electrolyte. Problem with that battery was solved. In fact, the current owner of Pearl reports that same battery is now showing 10.1V after sitting overnight (though it still gets to "ready"). Probably a cell gone and time to replace. That's 7 1/2 years of use, the time I -usually- get here with lead acid vehicle batteries.

These are NOT "maintenance free" batteries, they are "maintenance impossible" batteries, but I found a "work around" ;).

    Not so for COLD.
Any cold temp that does not damage the battery due to freezing of the electrolyte or making case parts vulnerable to fracture damage is actually GOOD for the life of the battery.

The capacity of the battery suffers while it is cold but not it's longevity.
The reduced capacity is regained when it warms up again.
