I need a 2nd car for commute (about 50 miles a day) and tried to test-drive new 2015 Sonata from Hyundai couple of days ago. It left my mind with mixed feelings and today I realized that I don't like this car as a car.

I like what they did with Apple (based entirely on Youtube videos) but I don't like car.

Anyway, spending 35K for a car which you don't like which have CarPlay onboard seems like a crazy idea.

But I like my Prius v a lot.

So, I wondering, will it be too hard to buy used 2010 Prius and put let's say Pioneer AVIC-7000NEX inside while keeping it integrated with controls on steering wheel (should be able to launch Siri with a voice-activation button) and keep rear camera working?

I found a several threads of Prius Base model modifications here (the one which came with MP3 audio only) and realized that it probably don't have rear camera and buttons on steering wheel.

I'm basically asking here are those modifications can be done for models which have camera & phone buttons on steering wheel for Prius 2010-2011.

Is there a reason why you couldn't install the AVIC-7000NEX on the Prius v instead?

I just need a 2nd commute vehicle (smaller than Prius v) and 1st one will be for the whole family and preschool trips.

I ended up with 2010 Prius Five today and just wondering what features are chained with navigation unit. In other words, what will break when I swap original navi unit with Pioneer?

It have parking assistant and I believe it should broke. What else?

Congrats! Did you end up replacing the navigation unit? backup camera?

I love my 2010 Prius IV, but I hate the nagivation system and backup camera. I always end up using my iphone and google maps to get to where I need to go. It would be nice to be able to use the big screen and steering wheel controls. The voice command system Toyota uses is frustrating to use.

Yep, head unit & backup camera were replaced.

Pioneer could do better job. When their Carplay implementation works than it's beautiful. However, here are caveats:
    - significant time to boot
    - crappy license screen which you suppose to read & press OK EVERY SINGLE TIME when you connect your iPhone
    - sometimes it stopping working right in the middle & reboots itself

I suggest you looking to Alpine models instead.

Yes. Installer put a module which keep functionality of volume & track backward & forward buttons intact.
