It's unfortunate that the contestants only have a month to "learn" how to best drive their PiPs. My own experience has been slow and steady, with emphasis on slow, augmented with the benefit of a lot of tips from this forum. It takes a while to forget how to drive like the owner of a regular gas engine car. But all good PR for Toyota, wherever they are doing this!

I wonder what the winner will be judged on. Most EV miles alone? What if one team reaches 1000 miles on EV only with no HV miles, but another team gets 10000 miles at say 100mpg? How do you judge the better team? MPGe? I know my numbers are exaggerated, but I don't see how this will be fairly judged.

Interesting... If all your trips are short there's only one thing to learn. Turn on ECO mode an don't press the accelerator to hard. No gas used in a month is easy.

However, for longer trips if there are a bunch of novices trying to use P&G on the freeway... :(

Winners were posted back in November 2013. I believe it was based on highest MPGe and miles driven.

"Sustainable Morristown, logging an incredible 999 MPGe over 537 miles. The Circle of Care team finished just behind, with an equally impressive 997 MPGe effort over 522 miles. The ARC of Essex County rounded out the Top Three with a 697 MPGe performance over 506 miles. Sustainable Morristown receives a $2,500 contribution from Toyota for their performance, while second and third place contributions of $1,000 and $500 were also awarded."

This would pretty much have to be done with all EV.

537 mi at 999 mpg is 1.86 gallons. 1.86 gallons times 33.7 kWh/gal is 63.7 kWh. A full charge is about 3 kWh. That's 20.9 full charges. Finally that's 537/20.9 equals 25.7 miles per full charge. That might be done for 500 miles on very flat smooth roads at the optimum speed of 20 mph with no head wind or it might require some downhill. Is that how it was done?

Any use of gas would make this more incredible as I believe HV only records are in the 100 mpg range for such total distances.

was thinking along the same line.
    "" I wish I could drive where there is a charger whenever I need it. :) ""
still wondering about the 124 mi ICE issue and how that was avoided :)
and what they used for gauges, seriously ...

I have never been able to even get one 25+ all ev trip let alone 20 of them.
I have had one trip of 21.3 EV no HV in 28 months of driving.
