And this just provides further evidence to the fact that despite recalling 8.5 million vehicles, most people would rather drive a car made by Toyota than be caught dead in a car made by GM.

If Camrys and Corollas are being offered with zero interest for 60 months, why not Priuses?

Read the first post: therein lies your answer.

I think Toyota should offer zero percent for 60 months on every model. Just to say "Thank you".

I think Toyota should give me a 2010 just because I'm a nice guy.

even though prius sales are up overall toyota sales are down from last year and down compared to the rest of the auto industry which saw an increase

This does not mean that they are not desperate to sell you a prius and will deal.

it's their way to boost sales--through the prius.

I think that toyota being in the news with all the negative publicity, is free publicity for them and people gaining interested in the Prius. Which is a reliable and bargain car for Toyota, after the recall.

you'll have to answer to malorn for that one!

"February was a pretty strong sales result," said Stephen Beatty, managing director of Toyota Canada International.

"Admittedly, February last year was not one of the better months in the Canadian auto industry, but we had a number of models that recorded their best ever February sales."

Those models included the Corolla, the RAV4 and the Prius, all of which were part of a massive recall by Toyota in late January due to a faulty accelerator pedal mechanism.

"It is hard to explain," said DesRosiers, " ... the consumer appears to be giving them the benefit of the doubt, at least for now. I also suspect there is some backlash in Canada to the treatment Toyota is getting by the politicians in the U.S."

In a plush executive office lined with aircraft paintings, the executive is turning a model of their next car in his hands. The intercom comes on and a secretary says:

"Mr. Lutz, the February Toyota sales numbers are here."

"Send them in!" bellows the executive.

In comes a minion holding the sales report but with a confused look.

"Well! Did we crush Toyota?" Lutz asks.

"Well sir, it is good news and bad news." squeeked the minion.

"Give me the good news!" Lutz shouts.

"It seems Toyota sales are all down except for one model."

"And the bad news?" Lutz asks.

    "Prius sales are up 10%."

<The minion is seen in uncoordinated flight out the door followed by the sales report.>

Why is Toyota the only car company that "apologizes" when they have a recall?
GM just recalled 1.4M vehicles--no apologies there. GM should apologize for a generation of bad management.

The Canadians seem to have the right perspective on what's happening in the U.S.

Prius sales gains alone won't make Toyota profitable. If they are going to be a profitable company, they are going to have to get the sales engine going. Continued sales declines without sizing the rest of the company to the real sustainable sales level is not sustainable.

profits shmofits! just keep making great cars. gm makes crap, loses money and bob klutz still has his job. is it a job if you don't do anything useful?

+1, that's true and they know that. That's why we're seeing 0% interest or low lease rates on Camry's, Corolla's and other Toyotas.

There is one minor qualification - Toyota is not majority-owned by the U.S. taxpayer (or the Japanese taxpayer, AFIK).
