2013 Prius v Two with 17,000 miles. Put the car in park so I could pay for parking as I was exiting a garage. The car would not go back into drive until after I turned it off and restarted it. This happened once before as I was getting on a ferry. Has anybody else had this happen?(sorry, I put the v in caps.)

Somewhat similar experience when first powering up; when I attempt to activate "drive" mode it beeps and the "parking" light flashes......Have to power down and start the power up sequence over....
Figured I must be doing something wrong; just do not know exactly what..???

That's exactly what it does. Figured I would post on here before I went to the dealer.

Almost sounds like you were trying to put it into B mode.

Nope. I was shifting into Drive from park. I had to turn off the car and restart it to get it to go into D.

No. The car was turned on. I was in park attempting to shift into Drive.

    Pretty sure it was.

i realize you were in park attempting to shift into drive, but if you attempt it right after powering up, it don't work unless you wit a few seconds.

Yes if I start the car fast it happens. I figure the electronics get confused or something.

right, it has to go to 'ready' before shifting or your brake switch may need adjustment and more pressure is needed than spec on the pedal.

I agree it has to show "READY" before you can shift out of P, but in ours that is almost instantaneous. Maybe accidently didn't push on the brake is my first suspicion as well, or maybe not press on the brake hard enough to disengage the shift lock.

Next time it happens note if the READY light is on. It may have also been you pushed the POWER button instead of P. (I know some people go straight to that instead of pushing P first so maybe you've accidentally done that.)

Otherwise it's probably dealer time for the car....

    SCH-R530M ?

The car sounds like it is operating normally, and complaining about *something* that prevents it from following hte driver request to enter D.
Open door and inadequate brake pressure are good guesses.

I've come to really appreciate the Prius looking over my shoulder. Amazing the dumb things I have done over the years.
