Pages on this website never loaded quickly, but today every page takes an excruciatingly long time to display (yes, I have broadband).

Does anyone have an idea what it going on? I seem to get other sites on the Internet to load at their normal speeds.

Prius Chat has always been the slowest site I use on a regular basis. Last time I had problems loading Danny said he was doing work on the site and that was the cause. But today is the slowest I've ever seen it. I'm not having problems with any other sites today.

I don't know if the issue is the size of the pages, or the speed of the server. I imaging if it was a pay site Danny could afford a faster server.

I've taken to copying my messages into the clipboard before hitting Preview or Submit, so I won't lose them if it fails to connect.

Based on an error message displayed a few days ago, it seems PriusChat is running in a virtual server environment. This means that the physical computer on which the site resides is apportioned among different clients, each getting a certain percentage of all the computer resources, including the CPU.

I did a little checking and found these details:

The server is hosted by Spry.com
There are 22 websites total on this server, this is a surprisingly small number. The server is running version 2.0.4 of Apache on top of Red Hat Linux - probably the best and most robust combination out there.

I have 20 websites of my own, all on a server with 700 other domains, and even on my sites that use PHP heavy content management systems I see little delay.

I was aware of this worm, but the last I had heard it seemed that Google had put the kabosh on it by recognizing the user agent string the worm presents and not serving any search results.

A number of my sites use phpBB 2.0.10 also, fortunately I've not seen this problem.

Here's a post from Danny from another thread:

Posted: Tue Dec 28, 2004 1:47 am Post subject: Good early morning to all of you --

I am on vacation right now (currently enjoying high-speed internet for the first time in awhile at a Hampton Inn) but was made aware of the issue a few days ago after speaking to my brother (who didn't come on the trip). There wasn't anything I could do until tonight, and unfortunately we had some downtime today apparently. I apologize for that. Something happened that filled up the sessions table in the database, and it didn't allow anyone back in until I cleaned it up.

I'm also aware of the slow load times recently on PriusChat. I believe a lot of this has to do with the modded software that PriusChat runs, as it relies much more heavily on php & sql than normal phpBB. I hope to look into this more when I get back, but there must be some things I can do to get the site to speed up. We are running on a dedicated server, which I share with one other person and we only have about 20 websites on the server. There's no excuse for the slow page loads. For faster page loads in the meantime, I suggest that you read through the archive (http://priuschat.com/forums/archive), which is less graphic/php dependent and seems to run faster.

I'll be back home tomorrow night or Wednesday morning (in Mt Vernon, IL right now) and will further address these issues then. I apologize for my lack of response to these issues, I thought that I could leave for a week and not have to worry Smile

Ok, after hours of trying to figure out what was going on and why the site was running so slow, I rebooted Apache, and boom, it's 10 times faster.

Please let me know if anyone is still experiencing 30+ second page loads. Hopefully no one.

Thanks Danny for the bringing back the speed.
When it was running slow it brought back memories of the days on my first computer and my 28.8 connection.

This page loaded so fast I left skid marks. Was that TMI?

    Great work Danny!

That was not nearly as painful as waiting for a Prius, or when PriusChat was hard down earlier this month - it was more like reverting back to dial-up . . . a very slow dial up at that.

Danny, good job and glad to see you upgraded to phpBB 2.0.11 too.

The slow load times are back today, at least on my Mac running Safari. Anyone else seeing this?

It seems a little faster today, but not by much. Still painfully slow.

Uggg.... I'm still working on a few things. It appears that the phpbb "attacks" are hitting us, causing a great deal of hits and load on the database. But still, it should be handling it better than this...
