We purchased a 2011 Prius in January and have loved the car except for the very annoying backup beep. I asked to have it disabled a couple of months ago. The dealer service said no problem and turned it off except for one warning beep.

Within a few weeks we realized that the seatbelt alerts had changed. The drivers side now makes 6 beeps and then quits vs the continuous beeping we had when we purchased the car. The passenger side does not beep at all when the car starts up.

The consumption gauge shows a consistent 51-53 miles per gallon. However, when we fill the tank and check the millage it is consistently 47-48.5 and that is less than the 50 we were consistently recording prior to these issues.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Take it back to the dealer and have them check the seat belt settings.

As for the consumption mileage, you are resetting Trip A or B after each fillup?

I reset both at each fill up.

sjohn, the single back up beep is the only alternative to continuous beeping. I had the seat belt beeps changed to one (the minimum). In your Owner's Manual there should be several pages listing the customizable settings. Make a list of everything you want changed & ask them to do it on the next service trip. Check them before you leave to ensure everything is "just right".

The MID is optimistic compared to calculated FE by some 6% or 7% or so. It tends to be a relatively consistent factor. If it is showing 51mpg I would say you are really getting 48mpg. Situation normal. Small percentages of big numbers are still noticeable. That extra little bit of gas that got pumped to make an even dollar probably had a noticeable effect on that tank's average.

Check your tp. It's probably low. Higher tp increases FE and handling.

It's starting to get cold. Blocking the grill will reduce warm time & improve FE.
