Well, since this <strike>forum</strike> section is sorta dead, I might as well stick some feelers and try to strike up some action :)

Anyway, I'm trying to predict/plan my budget for the next year, anyone have an idea as to how much a new 2007 prius package 2 will ring up in property taxes in northern virginia (after the car tax relief bill)?

My bill came to about $300. I'm not sure if jurisdictions charge different rates but this was in Chesterfield County.

I don't know why you say this forum is sorta dead. When you log on go to "View All New Posts". There is a lot of activity on the site.

<strike>.62/$100 in Spotsylvania County</strike> Opps that was for real estate. The property tax for the car was $193 for Spotsylvania County.

I too am in Chesterfield, which has a rate of $3.60 per $100 assessed value. I don't have this year's bill in front of me, but I think it's in the neighborhood of $260 for my 2005.

Yours will be considerably higher than ours. First, your tax rate is higher. Not knowing whether you're in Fairfax City or County, I looked them both up: The City's rate is $3.79, and the County's is $4.57 (ugh!). Second, of course, your car is newer and its assessment higher. Finally, Virginia's car tax relief applies only to the first $20,000 of a qualifying vehicle (which the Prius is unless used for business). In other words, you pay the reduced tax on the first $20K, and the full tax on the rest. I suspect the assessed value of your 2007 will be above that threshold.

EDIT: Duh, you said in the thread's title you're in Fairfax County. I'm a little slow sometimes.

Don't know about Fairfax, but Arlington just passed a property tax discount for clean-fuel vehicles -- no tax on the first $20,000. Perhaps you could suggest to your local officials that Fairfax adopt a similar measure.

I live in Fairfax County. I don't remember the exact number, but the tax on my 2006 Package #6 (equivalent to 2007 Package #4) was somewhere under $300.

...So I see these various Prius gatherings, clubs, etc., around the country (mentioned here in the forums on PC)---but never anything for No. VA? Any out there?

Christo, you might consider posting a new thread. Those interested in or sponsoring meetups might not look in a thread on taxes.

Regardless, you're welcome to play with us folks in the Richmond area if you don't mind driving a couple hours. See this thread for details on our last one and survey of participants for dates of preference for the next one in the fall.

Right you are, Jimbo! As soon as I clicked Add, I realized the subforum was not the best place to ask... ;) But I've also seen nothing over in the VA meetings/groups for Nova, so it probably doesn't much matter.
If I'm heading through Richmond sometime, or looking for an excuse for a little roadtrip, I'll hit you up!

A couple of us Richmond folk might consider a little get together in Fredericksburg, since it's kind of half way. Just a thought.

Sorry this has nothing to do with Property taxes.
