No ticket. The CHP officer was pretty rude though: Even after I signaled right & started moving into the gutter, he barked over his loudspeaker, "Use your brake. You know how to do it..... yes that's a good boy! Now move the shift to park. I know you can." o_O

Next he tried to sit in the passenger seat but I left the door locked (the justices say a car is protected same as a home). The cop hassled me because my car was dirty which I thought was silly (it was washed a mere week ago).

He also said he hates drivers trying to save gas & pulls-over at least two every year. I explained I had the cruise control set to 40 but the cop insisted I have to "Drive at least 60" in direct contradiction of signs erected by the legislature (I will get an image next time I pass it). He also laughed and said, "Welcome to California."

Wait. So the speed limit is 60, and you're rolling the bare minimum speed. ??? What, you pulling a trailer? :D

The law doesn't specify only tractors can roll minimum speed (see sign). Obviously going slow boosts MPG by reducing air resistance. It's the difference between 60 and over 70 miles/gallon. See Section II of Wayne Gerdes article: Beating the EPA - The Why’s and How to Hypermile - CleanMPG Forums

If I had a dashcam the cop would probably say, "You're not allowed to film," as so many of them falsely claim. Some drivers get arrested for having dashcams (and then freed later).

You were asking to be harassed going 40 in a 60...if this even really happened.

Sadly it did happen..... I'm not intelligent enough to invent that story. I think the cop should have been pulling-over the people going 75 to 80. I find it amusing those people were breaking the law & the cop let them get away with it. :)

Regardless, you were more a safety threat going 40.

Well if that is true, then it's a good thing we live in a representative republic. Californians can call their state legislator in Sacramento & ask him or her to increase the minimum speed signs above 40.

If I remember CA laws correctly, even if you are going the speed limit and it impairs traffic flow or causes an unsafe situation, you can be ticketed. But hey...go for it.

Having just gotten back from a trip to Los Angeles I would have to say if you were holding up miles of traffic, because you wanted to go 40 mph in a 65 mph zone, you should have gotten a ticket, or,, even towed, and put into a 24 hour hold for sanity check! Freeways are built to transport people from one place, to the next, as safely as possible. In L.A. 8 t0 12+ lane freeways are not uncommon, (4 to 6+ lanes in each direction x 2), all to try to get the masses from point A, to B. You would be risking peoples lives, (your own included) if you were to attempt to go 40 on any of the L.A. freeways if they were moving at the (rare) usual freeway speed of 60-78 mph. Not only could you get rear ended if you tried to go 40 mph, but you could also cause such road rage from drivers trying to get around you, (and risking their lives doing so)! I am sure this is just a joke,, but if not,, use the surface streets, and stay far-----> FAR away from freeways where you should be going with the flow of traffic, and not trying to create your own funeral!(y)

    V C Section 22400 Minimum Speed Law

In other words, you have to comply with the law by not exceeding the posted speed limit but you could be cited if you drive slower than the limit if it impedes or blocks "the normal and reasonable movement of traffic" or you drive slower than any posted minimum speed unless it's due to safety or your car is too underpowered to drive faster on an uphill road.

If you're speedometer in the car says 40 mph then you are actually going 39 mph....

The CHP officer was an unprofessional jerk but it appears that he could have had a basis for citing you even if you were driving 40 mph.

This sounds like another "sock puppet" post, whether it really IS one or not.
You are creating a traffic hazzard and endangering the lives of others.
If you think you MUST drive 40 MPH, don't do it on the freeway.
And you might actually find that your most efficient speed overall is closer to 55.

If this post is real and not just a troll, then you were intentionally being a moron and should have gotten a citation.

Then you got it deleted with the same tired pattern to argue, argue, argue.

I only posted once on the tailgate thread. It was other people that stirred that pot. And where you say argue I say "Greek style debate" which is a practice taught to me in college.
It's a 10 lane highway with plenty of passing room & nobody was behind me since it was early Sunday morning. Besides I was obeying the posted sign erected by the Government (which numerous courts say supersedes a vague sentence in a dusty lawbook hidden in the basement of the records department) ;).
