(Not sure if this should go here or FHOP...) Anyone have any current recommendations? I need to ship my Z from San Jose, CA to the Seattle, WA area in about 2 weeks. I'm driving my Prius but since I'm only 1 guy, I have to ship my Z. 5 years ago my company used Dependable Auto Shippers for my Z and former Maxima and they were ok (pickup guy was VERY careful) but the bottom part of the front bumper on my Z got scraped up and the plastic lip underneath had gouges (probably due to straps that went around the front tires). Fortunately, their insurance paid for the repairs (>$900) and I'm sure they lost money on me. Just looking for current recommendations... This time, I have to pay for the shipping and have to find my own shipping company.
My experience is that the shipper is really only a broker. The shipping is done by auto hauling trucking company. So you really don't know what carrier is trucking your car. They send a flat bed tow to pick up your car and then transfer to the staging area, usually a truck stop. When enough cars are collected going to the same route then they will load them on the carrier. Last time when I shipped my car from CA to OH, it was one week late and I have to get a rental for a week. BTW, the bumper is also damaged.
To follow up, thank you to wdave on TiVocommunity for his Plycar recommendation. The car arrived undamaged. The truck that picked up my Z had on board a junker Alfa that didn't even roll due to rusted brakes (caused delays for the driver), a brand new Porsche 911 w/the window sticker still on it and a Tesla Roadster on its way back to Tesla. The driver said his next stop was to drop off the 1 Tesla and pick up 3 more for customers. The dropoff truck had my Z and a Tesla Roadster that the driver said was bound for a customer in WA.
If I were you I would contact a company called Reliable Car Transportation. You can call them at 800-530-2826 to get more information. I know some people who shipped with them and have dealt with them myself - they're a great company with great service and great pricing. They're an auto brokerage which means that they handle all the details of your shipment including finding a reputable carrier to ship your car, handling all the paperwork and financial transactions and making sure that your car gets to its destination when they say it will. I'd definitely call them to see what they can do for you.
Hi there! Good car shipping company is All Coasts Transport which has a free quote request page: MyTransportQuote. They also handle Motorcycle shipping Boat transport, RV transport in United States and overseas. Hit a google search for them I can't paste links in this post. Regards
LOL! Yes, talk about crazy thread resurrection. Yes, I used Plycar and other than it being a bit pricey, I'd have no hesitation using them again.
Ok. I'm moving back to CA, so I could use recommendations again. Plycar has quoted me $1000 (not surprising, since fuel prices are higher now), so I'm shopping around for a bit. They seem to have lots of recent terrible reviews at American Auto Transport - 3 Stars out of 5 - Transport Reviews.com - Your Auto Transport Information Source. View Reviews, Ratings and Rankings of Auto Transporters.. So far I've tried to get quotes from: DeMoise - they can't do it Intercity Lines - decent price, but they can't meet my time window Horseless Carriage - WAY too high at $2235 Sunday Auto Transport - $1078 JP Logistics - $800 for open, $1100 for enclosed Passport - $1210 (enclosed) AutoStar Transport: $625 for open - not sure of this company's rep At the same time, I've put up the Z for sale, as a feeler but I'm running out of time due to my lease running out on 7/19 and the auto shipper needing some advance notice. Haven't gotten much response... I'm actually rather torn about selling it as I don't need the money.
cwerdna, my DH would be happy to drive your car down to CA... airfare back on VA would be expected, is all.
Ha. Nah, that's ok. I'm a bit wary of having folks I don't know driving my car for such a long distance. Besides, he might want to kill me if he experiences back pain afterward (Z has very stiff and bouncy suspension). I got a response from craigslist. It turned out to be a used car lot. They're offering me $12K and I was so torn selling it. One Nissan dealer is offering me $10K (ha, no way) but another is offering me an amazing $14K (!). Since shipping would cost me $1K, I know there's almost no way I can sell it private party for $15K in CA or WA, no matter how much time I had. Digression: The 2nd Nissan dealer (Stadium Nissan) had at least 7 Leafs on hand. There was a family there picking there's up today, taking pictures and all. They had showed up in a Rav4 EV. They (the family) mentioned the dealer had just gotten a shipment of Leafs today. I forgot to ask the employees if any were orphans. All of the staff were very busy.
That's okay, cwerdna... he was more interested in driving the Prius And, yes, that long of a drive would be hard on his back... but, it sounded fun at the time!
I used AutoLine Auto Transport to ship from florida to california and the rate was pretty good. i would use them again.
^^^ Talk about thread resurrection again... I ended up selling the car (350Z) instead of shipping it... :/ I don't need a shipper anymore.
Try Autoline Transport, I used them before and they did a good job. Here is a link AutoLine Auto Transport
