Read the auto press, and hear the meme: the Prius is expensive for what it gives, since much cheaper alternatives with close to Prius fuel economy are available. While we know that the claims of 40 mpg fuel economy are at best limited to highway driving, CR has now published the reliability for these cars including 2011:

For comparison, the Prius is about 60% better than average. I'll post the full list later.

What are the labels for different categories? I stopped reading consumer reports a while ago, so I don't know what I am looking at here.

So comparing a Prius that is ~ 60% better than average, to a Cruze that is ~ 60% worse than average -- and assuming I am remembering simple arithmetic correctly, the Cruze has 300% more registered problems in the first year than the Prius.

Cruze owners can only hope all the problems are fixed by the time the warranty runs out and the reliability gap magically closes, or their savings when they bought the car are going to evaporate *really* quick.

Yikes! That is a percent worse than average bar? I guess people don't live on the shoulders of interstates where everywhere they go is highway driving at a constant 55mph...
