    Hi All..
Just had the remote start package installed on my 2010 Prius IV by my dealer. When testing it I discovered that the rear defroster (and side mirror defrosters) will not come on when you remote start the car even when you leave the button "on" when you shut down the car... only the front defroster and seat heaters will come on... that really detracts from the value of the remote starter in winter... Has anyone had a different experience... I'm hoping that maybe it was an installation error that can be fixed... but according to Toyota customer service, that's the way all toyotas with remote start function... any thoughts?
    Thanks, larrym

It's not so much the way the remote start works, but rather the way the car works.

I think if you turn the car off even with the rear defroster just turned on, it will not return to this setting once restarted, even on cars without the remote start. Whereas, the front defroster is a mode that the car will return to once turned off.

Adding the remote start does not change these basic functions of the vehicle.

Thanks for your response... I figured that was how the car normally worked.. I just thought (maybe foolishly) that part of the installation process for the Toyota remote start would include overriding that normal feature and causing the rear defroster to come on when remotely starting, (assuming it was "on" when you last shut the car down)... Obviously I was wrong... Thanks again, larrym
