Hi! I picked up my Prius today, and eventually drove the car to work. On my return trip home, I noticed that the right side of the overhead light stayed on. This didn't seem to be influenced by whether the exterior lights were on, or by turning the car off or by the switch for the interior light; that affected the left side of the overhead light, but not the right. What am I doing wrong? And will these lights automatically switch themselves off?

Quick and dirty - it's the passenger map/side light. Push the light lense toward the roof. It will click and turn off. You (driver) have a map light too. Read the manual - it will explain quite a bit.

    Have fun!

That would be the map light that you've switched on. Press it to switch it off.

thank you for your explanation. It worked; I had to, for some reason, hit the left side light to get the right side light to turn off. I was looking at page 364 of the manual, and I found it *very* unclear on this subject. Is there something clearer?

Welcome to our world. Yes the manuals tends to leave a few things to our imagination or the wording is not the clearest. And it may be difficult to find the specific information, amongst all the warnings and legal speak.

If all else fails - PriusChat is here. In any case, recommend you conduct a 'search' in the forum for content that may cover your topic or question. Many times... you will not be the first, as in the dome light question.

Little doubt someone on the board will be able to help. You'll find this a wonderful resource as I did when a newbie.

Thanks, Dean. Yes, I found this to be a splendid resource when I was considering a Prius. When I have future questions, I'll try search first. Often, though, I find it hard to predict the exact term I should use to get a response.

I just wanted to add my thanks to both the person who posed this question and especially to the people who answered it! I've had my Prius for ~3weeks now, and just ran into this situation for the first time tonight while leaving the grocery store. I couldn't figured out how to get the light to go off! I ended up pulling over and going onto priuschat from my phone to try to look for a solution. I'm grateful this thread was here! :)
