    Hello,
I've seen references in the forums to Safety Connect being available on Prius IV and V, and am told by some dealers it can be activated later in the year, but I've seen conflicting info on here. Does anyone know the latest on this?

It will NOT be available until the fall. Cars bought now w/o it CANNOT be upgraded to it later. That information has always been known and is still the latest and up to date information about it.

Well that is unfortunate. It's a rather bizarre marketing approach, and I'm a bit disappointed with my dealer, who was quite specific in e-mail that it could be added later. But thanks for your clarification.

    +1 on what Paradox said.

Also note it's only available on the higher models.

Yes, as Tideland mentioned, it will only be available on the Prius IV and V. But as you had mentioned (in your first post), you gained that information from the priuschat forums :) not an uninformed dealer.

Edit, you posted right as I was replying lol

Does anyone (Prius Team?) know if Safety Connect will be part of SR or a separate ($$) feature when it comes out in the Fall? The brochure lists it as part of Solar Roof pack but my dealer doesn't know much about it.

You will find that MOST dealers are completely uninformed about the Prius, and I have spoken with several and NONE were aware that later in Sept. a USB connection and Safety Connect will be available.
If your dealer questions this information, tell them it comes from:

So just so I'm clear, you're saying USB and Safety Connect are coming later in the year AND can be added or not added to existing Prius V vehicles?

I thought I heard that cars coming with Safety Connect this fall will also be more expensive. Also included is the ipod adapter and upgraded steering. Is this true?

    Matt;
The USB can be added by the dealer to those cars not so equipped for a fee (price unknown, $200 to $300 est.), The safety connect CANNOT be added.
However, when cars begin arriving with USB (which will be part of the navigation pakage) The stand alone navigation and navigation included with SR and AT packages prices will increase.
If you can find the live chat with Doug Coleman all this information is enclosed therein.

Safety Connect will require NAV (due to the GPS tie-in for location based services).

    Dear Doug:

The brochure lists safety connect as footnote #19 and with the letter P meaning as available as part of a package. What package are we talking about, Navigation and or solar roof? If one purchases a Prius IV does that mean that the safety connect come with that trim or does one still have to pay extra for the safety connect aside from the subscription to a service after a 1 year grace period?

    Many thanks

It's part of the Nav package for IV & V - standard. It's not available for the II or III. That's what I understand. The first year subscription is free then must be paid after. The service won't be available until the end of '09.

If that's true then is the price of the nav package going to go up once it is out? I don't see them throwing it in for 'free' to what is out there now...

    Dear Doug,

How can I order my new Prius package V with AT package and "safety connect" plus USB.

I want to buy one but none of the dealers seem to know anything and don't even want to bother trying. No availability dates , no idea even what it is "Clueless" don't they have aa school or something to learn their product?. I know more about their car than they do.
