Now that Toyota is going to be shipping the 2010 Prius with Safety Connect and USB port capability (at least on some models), the Regions will begin to use different build codes. The dealers will use these to order their preferences from their regions.

It appears to me that the number changes will make it easier to avoid mistakes such as ording a Model III with solar roof and having it interpreted as a Model Iv with solar roof.

Here are the new build descriptions (from the Chicago Region) effective August 14, 2009.
    1. 1225 w/ SR now becomes SW (SW will replace SR for model 1225 as "SOLAR ROOF....W/USB")
    2. 1225 w/NV now becomes NW (NW will replace NV for model 1225 as "NAVIGATION...W/USB")
    3. 1227 w/SR now becomes SY (SY will replace SR for models 1227 as "SOLAR ROOF...W/USB AND SAFETY CONNECT")
    4. 1227 & 1229 w/NV now becomes NY (NY will replace NV for models 1227 and 1229 as "NAVIGATION...W/USB AND SAFETY CONNECT")
    5. 1229 w/AT now becomes AY (AY will replace AT as "ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE W/USB AND SAFETY CONNECT")
    Clear?

My region (mid-Atlantic) doesn't show it yet but I should find out next week when I'll get my IV/SR (or is it IV/SY????) BRM. I've been waiting since early April.

Correct. And the Prius II is 1223. I presume the Prius I would be a 1221, but I haven't seen anything on it yet.
