have we grown to the size where we are overloading the PC servers? i am getting this "server too busy" message more and more often.

is there anything we as members can do to alleviate this problem?

You mean other than not logging on so often? :p I've been getting that error a lot too, or one of the related MYSQL database errors. We need a bigger hamster for the wheel, maybe a bigger wheel too.

Instead of a bigger hamster make it a PHH (plug in hybrid hamster ) :)

I've been doing my part by not logging in as often. Actually, I've been too busy. This will probably be the case for the next few months, at least. I'm hoping with my new laptop, I'll be able to catch up while watching TV with the wife and dog. ;)

I got that message for the first time today! Needless to say, I was rather surprised.

I've run into this problem many times actually. I assume that the member base has reached a point where the servers can become overloaded. I usually just leave and try back in 15 minutes and it is fine.

It happens to me frequently during peak times, at which point 15 minutes isn't enough. I usually give up and come back a few hours later.

Me too, but yesterday (Sunday) morning wouldn't seem to be one of those. I couldn't get in until late yesterday afternoon.

Yep, it seems yesterday was a really bad day for the server. I couldn't get on all day long from multiple locations. Anyone know if its the amount of users browsing, users logged on or perhaps just a general server error?

We all need our PC fix for the day!

 Hopefully the Server is being properly BACKED-UP at least once a day................
In case of a hardware failure or some jerk "hacker" ...............
Just curious (since I am a fully-qualified computer GEEK) B) are the Server's hard drives running in a RAID 5 (striped) configuration or at very least a "dual drive" RAID 1 (mirrored) configuration ??

Sounds to me the error should read "PC members not busy enough" instead of "server too busy" ;-)

I had that message most of yesterday, then this AM again. Most of the time when I get it retry doesn't help. Mostly it seems to happen when there is general peak bandwidth use to me. I think we need more bandwidth available on the server but I am not up on that stuff. I only know it makes for a long day when I don't get my priuschat fix.

The server is obviously not properly tuned. Error messages about mysql_pconnect() attempts and too many connections show clearly that maximum connections allowed parameter is set too low.
Another thing... mysql_pconnect() (persistent connect) works fine and is faster than mysql_connect() (temporary connect) for less loaded web sites. It seems PC is quite popular so rather mysql_connect() should be used instead - it closes the connection to the database as soon as web page is loaded. In case of mysql_pconnect() the connection remains active even after whole page is loaded and cannot be reused by other users.

At first I was thinking that PriusChat was getting Denial of Service attacked.

If the server really were being overloaded by too many users online, then we would be setting new records. As it is, the front page of the forums still reads, "Most users ever online was 890 on Mar 19 2007, 12:10 AM"
