We are the proud owners of a new pearl white Prius 5 with the ATP package. (picked it up[ today)

Our origional plan was to purchase the car in California and drive it home to Mass. Because of the clunker program we purchased it locally and will ship it out later this week to California.

Because the car will travel on an open car carrier we asked our dealer to leave on the plastic paint protection.

Apparently there are two schools of thought on this

    1) One should remove the paint protection plastic as is the direct sone for an extended period it might damage the paint.

    2) One should leave on the plastic paint protection to protect the paint from damage on the car carrier.

Clearly both opinons can not be correct. Sny onr hsve asn opinion?

    Thanks

    Stan

I've seen many cars sitting in the lots of dealerships with the white plastic on them. I would think it'll be just fine another few extra days in transit.

I doubt it matters which except from a practical and convenience standpoint. Unless you have a dealer in California that would finish the prep I would let the dealer in Mass do it. It will be a lot easier in Cal. to pick up a car that is ready to go.

Please tell me more about how this works. I have been waiting 3 months for a V w/ATP in gray or blue with gray interior. My local dealer apparently looks for port trades only with the region headed by Denver (I'm in Santa Fe). This region only has Denver and Phoenix as truly big cities, so no wonder they fail to deliver.

I have been in contact with a CA dealer that will sell me the car MSRP and split the ship charge. I will check in locally tomorrow to see if they are looking in CA; this is about their last chance. Honest, I want to buy locally, if I can get them to deserve it.

    I have some questions.

    1. What is the ship cost from CA to MA in an open carrier? I have one private quote for $575 from CA to NM.
    2. The car comes to me, so I must do all the licensing & registration & taxes work?
    2. Or, the car would come to my local dealer, after he has made no profit?
    3. Or, the local dealer sells me the car and is hence motivated to be a continuing service center? Can this lower the ship cost?

Thanks in advance for your experiences.

Maybe you have never seen a car after it travels across the US on an uncovered carrier..... (leave the plastic on the car).
