    Hello all,
I'm soon to be the owner of a 2010 Prius II. I'd like to know if the metal key inside the remote "smart key" can be ordered seperately. I've heard the smart keys are several hundred dollars each. But if all I need to do is unlock the door, all I need is the metal key. Can this part be ordered by itself? Has anyone done so?
    Thanks!

Prior to 2010, the metal keys were standard Toyota blanks, available at any key shop. The ones used in the fobs had a special small head, but a normal blank would also work.

For 2010 I believe they went to a laser cut key. You can get copies at the dealer. You may also be able to get copies elsewhere, but I don't know that for sure.

usually AAA provides free key copying service to members and the plastic spare comes attached to a plastic card that fits in your wallet; I got it done for my 08 but never tried it on the car itself
