    It's been months since I gave my dealer my sincere and firm "order" for Gen III; 1227 IV, Silver w; Misty Gray leather; w/solar option. And the waiting goes on and on. And now we realize Toyota underestimated the demand for the solar option so they are getting harder to find. I'm in the Orlando, FL area. We call Florida, the Sunshine State. Get it... sun! And what would go well in the sunshine state? Hmmm... a solar sunroof perhaps? Do ya think?

    OK, no bitterness. Just frustration. I'm not very patient but I'm going to though this one out. I really know what I want and am going to wait for it. Even though my dealer calls me to tell me he can get me a III w/ solar - and then have the leather seats and lumbar done in the after market. I'm more comfortable with the IV package, done at the factory. It just seems better for me. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm certainly blabbing.
    Good luck to all of us that continue to wait.

    Hang in there! If you know what you want, then stick by your guns. You will get what you want eventually and then will be very happy that you waited.

    I'd also consider putting other dealers to work too outside of your area, assuming that you don't mind traveling to pick up your car.

    Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

    The wait is tough -- I ordered a IV with SR on June 20, and finally got a call today that the car is in "freight" status, and should arrive at the dealer on this upcoming Monday, 8/31 or Tuesday, 9/1. PriusChat has been a great support system during the wait.

    I'm just waiting for my prius II. the dealer has had my order for a week. no vin number yet. my lease is up October 1. the next car carrier is September 20th into Newark. if they don't get a vin confirmation for, at latest, September 20th ship i'll have to buy something else. if the do get it and they "tart" it up with accessories then they can keep the car and send me my "none refundable deposit" (ha!). the contract was for a red prius II, bisque, with three options. if it comes inay different they have "broken and disolved" the contract.

    and personally i don't care if they figure out what customer i am. my salesman tried his best, he's a nice guy but i want what i want in the car i will buying and keeping for 10 years.

    The III and IV are a lot more different other than leather and lumbar. You'd miss Homelink, EC mirror, 3-door Smart Entry, power lumbar and seat heaters, the water resistant windows (no biggie in FLA) and I think I am forgetting something...........

    I ordered a V with nav in white on 23 May. Two weeks ago I got a call from my dealer in Bayside, NY offering me a V in gray. I declined and asked when "mine" would come. He said he couldn't even render a guess. Since my deposit is not marked refundable, I wonder how long I would have to wait before I could cancel?
    Meanwhile I am very content in my 2004, and more so after reading on these boards of the shortcomings of the 2010. Maybe even to the point of maintaining my current car even if it means replacing the hybrid battery eventually.

    Glad I am not the only one frustrated! I ordered an "anycolor" V with nav about a month ago. I didn't expect the car to show up the next day, but it would be nice to hear from the dealer about ANYTHING! Yes, I did call and got the, "inventory person isn't in today," routine. I'd just like to know if I can get one? What time frame? Are they making them in "anycolor"? Should I give up and come back next year? I'd have given up on this dealer a long time ago (one reason I have a Frontier p/u instead of a Tacoma) if it weren't for the fact that the next nearest dealer is about 350 miles away and a Prius really fits our needs!

    Thanx for the opportunity to vent!:(

    You are part of a very small region that gets very few V package cars.
    There are so few cars trickling in the next 6-8 weeks, it's pathetic. My own new car manager has warned me the past 3 allocations "don't get upset, the allocation estimate is in the email..." because my reaction is shock and horror LOL. Our next allocation for Prius in SoCal for early to mid Sept is frightful. 406 cars! For 74 dealerships to divvy up. And, of those 406, only 28 are V package cars. The mix is

    I = 2 (region display cars so far)
    II = 62
    III = 65
    IV = 249
    V = 28

    and half of these cars are not even floating yet.

    My advice? If you want the car, you're going to have to wait anyway. You may as well be in someone's line. Stay in your local dealer's because no one's line is any faster or fuller.

    OK - call me curious. Why would you think I would know where your car is or when it might come?

    Your V package shows that it's been on ground in Falmouth for 2 days but it may not have arrived yet. Each region's data entry folks are different. I get Prius fast because we're so close to the port, and often I have a car that shows F (Freight) even after I have sold and delivered it. I don't know where ya are in relation to your PORT... so it might be there or it might not, I dunno.

    I'm in the same boat. Orlando here too. The way I try to think about it, so I don't go crazy, is that we are talking about a 2010 model and it's still 2009. I also agree that I feel better waiting for the IV instead of going for the III and then altering it to be "like" a IV. Hang in there. Get what you want. You're going to have the car for a long time. Hopefully Japan got the message and they're stepping up production on the solar roofs. :D

    The demand for this car in the WORLD is way more than what was anticipated. We got a huge splash of initial cars to fill the lots and the intention was to meet the early demand, and allow the production to gradually wane to stay even or somewhat close to even with the demand. Cash4Clunkers created a huge demand in this country and production was already being lessened as it always is after a new car's debut. They hadn't planned to crank them out continually except in Japan, where the demand is creating an 8 month wait. If you think they are going to be able to just pop more cars out, you're nuts. Highlander hybrid production's ceased, Camry hybrid production's at 25% of its normal # to conserve the batteries and parts needed for Prius production.

    I'm sorry -- it's several months before the USA has enough cars to meet the regular demand. It isn't going to be pretty and lots of dealerships will take the opportunity to mark the cars up over the MSRP and you know what? Folks will pay the added markups. I've watched it happen plenty. When the market sucks on a car or a certain model is plentiful, you expect a great big discount. This may be - for some dealerships - exactly the opposite. No markDOWNS - markUPS.

    Do we do that here? No. Not now.

    But, Toyota sets the MSRP bar and we have to live with it... and stores will do as they wish with their inventories.

    It's not a lack of sunroof, it's not a lack or red cars and it's not a lack or III's or whatever... it's a lack of available inventory, period, regardless of what you are seeking. If you're in a line for a car, stay in it! Your dealer can't go back out to the delivery area and : Poof :: make a car appear.

    Out of curiosity I looked at my Toyota dealership's website to see what Prius models they had in inventory. They have 2 Prius II's in the lot, and they list about 4 Prius IV's as "available." What I found interesting is that they increased the price of the Prius II by more than $1,000 from what I paid just last month. I agree with Diane that there will be consumers who will pay more for a Prius than what most of us paid because they really have no other choice.

    What bothers me most is that Toyota doesn't seem to honor any real priority list and some people have to wait what....4, 6, 8 months or more? While others just 'luck out' and get what they want almost the same day. I would prefer to wait longer and have a realistic delivery date that I could depend on, then not know and be surprised by a shorter wait. It would mean being able to plan selling my old car and other considerations.
    On the other hand, the longer I wait, the more updated and perfected will be my car, and maybe, just maybe, I'll wait long enough that the plug-in model will become available.:rolleyes:

    Thanx for your comments, Dianne! Guess I'll just keep my place in line! The wait would be a lot easier if the local folks weren't taking all the "fun" out of the experience! It's easy to see why folks enjoy working with you!
