Does anyone know how to stop the annoying signal that goes off when backing up? I haven't even got my Prii yet but want to take care of that first thing. Help!!:p

    yes, it's quite simple.

first, go to the top of this screen. then, click "search." type in "disable beep" and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! :)

See if this will work. It's part one of installing a back up buzzer.

It's only annoying until you realize it helped you prevent an accident.

That is why it is there.

If you wish to neutralize a safety feature, don't blame the car if you slam into an object, car, person, etc. because the car went the opposite direction you were expecting.

An accident is only a careless flick of the wrist away.

    Here it is again.

You need to download it to your desktop, and then open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

But...your Prius DOES have a "disable beep", but it only disables the beep when it changes screens.
If you want a mouse, there are threads complaining about unwanted rodents taking up residence in the car.:D

People around here get a little tired of repetitive posts. Don't worry about it. Everyone has the same question sooner or later.

These instructions work. They also work for the seatbelt beep. Just replace "shift into reverse and park" with "insert seatbelt and unlatch seatbelt".

1- Turn car on, cycle odo to read odo and not trip a or b
    2- Turn car off
3- Turn car on, within 6 seconds press odo and HOLD it for at least 10 seconds
4- While still holding odo shift into reverse
5- While still holding odo press park, odo will change to b-on
6- Press odo once, b-on will become b-off
    7- Turn car off
8- Turn car on, wait for normal start up beeps to finish and shift silently into reverse.

I'm never outside my Prius when I back up so I thought the beeping sound could be heard from outside. The most dangerous thing about the Prius is it is so quiet, that pedestrians are often walking in front of the moving vehicle in parking lots. I have to be extra careful not to hit them.

oh, you didn't know? it's 20 points for each moving pedestrian, 50 if they're over the age of 65, and 100 if they're on their cell phone.

That's what the rest of the PDF is for; installing a backup beeper in the taillight that can be heard both outside and inside.
