The $3 Prius "one finger" operated SHIFT KNOB...

All Prius efficiency upgrades don't need to be expensive.

As a cheap experiment, I ordered these German made Kipp "Novo Grip" knurled knobs from WW Grainger;

While I really liked the stainless steel knob that I made, I like this one even better.


The knurled rim prevents it from slipping when using just the tip of your index finger.

Basically, you can do all the shifting that you'll ever need to do with the tip of your index finger.

I locked mine onto the shaft with a M6 stainless "jam or cheek" nut. but any M6 nut will do. All you need is a 10mm open end wrench.

Mine is on my Prius"v," but I'm sure that it will work just as well on all Gen III and Gen II Prii. They all use the M6x1.0 threads.

If you don't have a Grainger account, you an go to Lowe's "Pro Desk," order it and have it shipped for FREE to your home or to Lowe's. I haven't tried, by Tractor Supply also does Grainger "special orders."

 

Function does beat out looks.........It really works WELL.

 

If I could, I wouldn't have a shift knob at all. I'd just WILL it to go in Drive or REVERSE.

 

Not the same. You'll be surprise how much engineering in materials, ergonomics, and testing goes into the design and manufacture of the particular knob.

The knob is made of the same glass filled engineered polymer as the receiver frame on a Glock pistol. The naysayers thought the same of Glock when they charged $500 for a plastic pistol.

The nail polish cap can come of at any time.

I have a 6 year old Tom Tom non Wi-Fi connected GPS. I prefer it to a high end one. It does the job and it's not likely to attract thieves.

I am well over the "Look at me. I've made it, I'm rich syndrome." I prefer to keep my money rather than to sped it on electronic "bling" for having technology for technology's sake alone.

I can't see getting an iPhone just to check the pressure in my tires. The $3 tire gauge that you push on the valve is fine.

 

How about, if it was solid gold?
