I'd heard of posts here on Priuschat where there were idiots blaming hybrids and Priuses for high gas prices but this is the first direct quote I've come across. Good lord!

I now wonder how many of the people who drive monstrosity class (aka full-sized) SUVs and trucks also think like the idiot that the OP encountered. I wouldn't be surprised if some them also think they're being "green" due to the Tahoe/Hummer "greener than a Prius" thoroughly debunked junk science that refuses to die.

I still hear the usual hybrid misinformation through various channels, most recently via a "conversation" on Facebook (http://priuschat.com/forums/environmental-discussion/104228-sign-times.html#post1482173).

The main reason we are seeing a rise in gas prices are speculators and their unchecked greed and our failed Middle East policies, starting off when we got in bed with and armed Bin Laden back in the 80's. Supporting brutal dictators like the Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussien also contributed. Anyway the point is, there are lots of reasons (greedy speculation, bad geopolitics) that we have high gas prices and none of them have to do with driving hybrids.

Give him a break, maybe his Adult Ed Economics class has only done "economy of scale" and hasn't reached "supply and demand" yet.

I understand his logic. Just like the obesity problem in the US is caused by the all the skinny people not eating enough. And the illiteracy problem is cause by smart people not reading enough. I could go on...

Remember the old adage, never argue with a drunk or a fool. It's just so hard to resist when someone says something so goddamn stupid. My micro-econ professor would have thrown a textbook at his head.

Wow! Gotta love this stuff. I'll try to fill up more often! Large doses of disinformation are being broadcast pretty loudly all the time now, and unfortunately accepted without much question by way too many people.

Best not make wise responses to comments about your Prius when someone is showing frustration, stress or anger about having to spend large amounts of money to gas up a less fuel efficient vehicle. Especially when the remark about your Prius is outlandish or absurd. A possible confrontation is just not worth it.

actually, the College Station area of Texas is a largely, talk radio listening, republican/conservative population. I am a middle ground type.
