The plug at work is about 4-5 feet off the ground, and no provision to be able to hang the charger box. So, I have a conflict of instructions: Toyota says not to let it hang by the plug, and it also says not to use an extension cord. I am thinking that the best alternative is a short (6') heavy duty appliance extension cord. Does this sound reasonable, or should I just let it hang out there as I have been doing so far?

I also use the right-angle appliance cord. Works fine.

Try to add a hook under the outlet or something to keep the EVSE's box off the ground.

or a stick with one end on the ground and a hoozie on the other end to prop up the charger box.

12/3 ga., 15 amp 25 foot extension cord is what I use. No issues so far.

I got a 12 gauge 6' extension cord from Home Depot, and now I can comfortably rest the brick on the hood of my car with no problems. Problem solved! Thanks for the replies.

I have a rubber bungie that I carry with my EVSE and when in the garage at the Univ, I strap it to the column where there the plug is.. (since rain can enter on the level where I park.. I don't want the EVSe, but especially not an extension cord, lying on the ground).

The Toyota EVSE brick has a li'l hole on one corner. I put a thick zip tie loop through that hole, and now I can hang the EVSE brick off the wall if there is anything I can use as a hanging point when I charge away from home (I have a L2 home charger).
