    Changes to the Central London Congestion Charge announced today open the way for even more Toyota vehicles to travel in the capital for free. From 27 October, cars in bands A and B for Vehicle Excise Duty – those emitting less than 120g/km of carbon dioxide – will receive a 100 per cent discount.

    In all there are 35 Toyota models that are charge-exempt, when different body styles, transmissions and specifications are taken into account. And the even better news is that Toyota’s product strategy promises more low emissions models in the not-too-distant future.

    Don't you love SUV/Trucks/Powerful-sportscars get to pay the $50 congestion charge to go into London?

    Car lovers already hate him for charging $16 a day for it, and now this. Guess more Prius, HCH, and mirco cars are going to be sold soon.

    Kind of surprising, I had thought one of the focuses of the London charge was related to smog emissions. The diesel Yaris puts out 17X more NOx than the Prius.

    The quoted article only mentions CO2 emission as the measuring stick (see table). Do you have some numbers for NOx for these same vehicles?

    Perhaps some members from the UK could provide more info, but I thought the original intention was to reduce congestion in certain parts of the city (hence the name "congestion charge") which in turn would reduce emissions as a matter of course.

    I think the rate's going up again. Was £5, then £8 and I think the new one will be closer to £20! :eek:

    In the UK, they're nuts on the CO2 bit (Hence the diesels). It's all about CO2.


    Hmm... so in Canada, they complain Toyota has the advantage in the EcoAuto rebate (for having the Yaris in but Honda's Fit is out of the rebate). Toyota UK has the congestion charge advantage.

    Wow, Toyota's just getting rewarded left, right and centre (of course they still have that hulking Sequoia but let's be honest, more Yarises, Corollas and Priuses are sold than Sequoias).

    ahh... they've tweaked it! Good.

    The new Corolla is at 6.6L/100km :(. Just short of the 6.5 limit. Fit = 6.5, Corolla 6.6... despite being heavier and having a larger engine. That 1.5 litre in the Fit must be working quite hard (that and the transmission tuned for shorter gear ratios).
