Why should this C-HR be more refined than Prius Gen4?
Its is not upper class, nor luxury focused.

Same reason why the Auris in Europe is better than the Prius in quality of build and materials. Our household has both. The Auris is quieter, handles better and has a better feel overall.

You have to understand that this is based on Corolla and not Yaris. How Toyota USA markets it is their problem. But all of the pricing comes from the fact that it will be Corolla based and not Yaris - or should we say Prius based in this case.

Now I do not think that customers will have a problem identifying that this is based on Prius wheelbase (2.7m) vs Prius c wheelbase. Do you think people sit in Prius and then sit in Prius c and dont know that Prius c is lower class vehicle?

Listen, I was responding to a post about the C-HR not being a competitor to the Juke with it being a step larger by pointing out that in the US, and articles written for that market are going to use the Juke for the simple fact that Nissan doesn't sell the SUV of the correct size segment in that market.

Well thats same as Toyota selling Scion iM at much larger prices than Fit even if Honda does not have competitor in that class.

So while some informed people might think Fit and Scion iM are same class, in reality when you see the car, sit in it, you will realize they are different classes even if Honda does not sell Civic hatchback in the USA.

Juke is not only smaller, it is also built inside like Yaris. So there wont be any chance of thinking they are in same class.

Compared to Rav4, with larger wheelbase and shorter overhangs, this will have little bit less rear space due to sloping roofline and a lot less trunk space... but so does Lexus NX and it seels like crazy.

C-HR will have advantage of not being built to have AWD at all, so it should have much deeper trunk than NX (NX has very shallow trunk due to design even if it is based on same paltform as Rav4, difference is staggering).

How many years between Prius 3gen launch and your Auris?

3... and plus Auris was made with Europe in mind. So from start, it was done to be quieter and with nicer interior.

Prius G4 is already nice when it comes to quietness and higher quality interior and lets hope C-HR is done as well as G4, just with European design in mind.

Is this official? That would be a disappointment as I assumed it will have an AWD option since TNGA in principle has support for AWD.

Toyota-Europe: #ToyotaCHR appears visually bold & compact but it’s a spacious FULL size C-Crossover- only 4cm shorter than the RAV4.

    According to the german press-release:

Besides the hybrid system of the 4th generation Prius , the CH-R will also be available with a 1.2 l turbo gas engine delivering 115 HP/85 kW, coupled to either a manual 6 gearbox or a CVT, developed for it for the european market. It says there are 4WD drive versions, which also include the CVT driven turbo gas engine. On certain european markets, there will also be a 2.0 l engine with CVT transmission (probably the one of the RAV4). It does NOT say whether the hybrid will ba offered as e-four.

The drive train is produced in Wales (Deeside), and the car in Turkey.

    Jan ;)

I would love a lower car than a Rav for our next car, based on pictures though, I don't care for it. The one thing is I wonder how people think Toyota is going to make a car cheaper than the Prius but yet 'better'. We shall see when it comes out. I'd be concerned about the back windows because my dogs would not approve of windows that don't roll down :)

This will indeed be a major omission. One would have expected they would go along the e-four route rather than conventional 4wd especially since TNGA already has provision for it.

This is already the case with Toyota Auris vs Prius. The Auris HSD is better in every way compared to the Prius except perhaps on interior space specifically legroom where Prius wins. We have both at home and I find with the Auris, it is easier to achieve good mpg whereas with my Prius I have to be extra gentle.

You forgot to mention equipment. HUD, as LED headlamps, by 2010 were very limited even in luxury segments.
Always I've read good MPG is easier to achieve with the Prius, you are the first to state the opposite...Even NEDC reflected better MPG 2010 Prius vs Auris ZWE150.

Thanks for the C-HR coverage in your forum parkerbol. I see you refer to E-Four, do you have any further insight as to whether C-HR will have it?

Okay Toyota UK has just now confirmed to me that AWD will only be available on the 1.2 T Turbo, HSD comes with front wheel drive only. That is a disappointment
