I was a little confused by the prices listed, since the Toyota website gives the starting price as $20,950, then I saw the goofy spelling of centre => this is a Canadian article. (Don't get me wrong, I like Canadians and they do some things right like the metric system, but their spelling is definitely old-school.)

nothing against Canadians, i talk to them often as part of my job. and quite a few of them do use "hey" as a regular part of their conversation. i will say that it seems to be western Canadians more than the Eastern part (at least the Eastern Canadians that have english as their primary language)

Way beyond frikin' time and not nearly low enough given that $1 Canadian is worth almost $0.98 US. Basically even. Toyota should be dropping the price a LOT lower than $29,500 Canadian. I have no idea what the $2,500 extra features are but $27,500 US buys the top end Prius.
  5. DaveinOlyWA
wow!! i though it was more like 80-85 cents per dollar...

    Not bad eh?

This means For $35k, you can have a "luxury" hybrid courtesy of the TCH with leather, power moonroof, power front seats and heated front seats or you can have a "techy" hybrid with the Prius and its navigation system, backup camear, lightweight alloys and ultra-high tensile steel body.

The $2,500 in extra features are:

    - 16" alloys
    - Euro suspension
    - Extended spoiler
    - side/side curtain airbags
    - foglights
    - Homelink
    - auto-dimming mirror
    - theft-deterrent system (aka alarm) although we all know that's simply a programmable thing thanks to DanMan32

I've had mine, bought in Canada, exactly 12 months now.
Back then I paid 35K$ Package B + ext warranty, even though the exchange rate was in the high eighties.

Plus the Canadian Federal Gov't gives you a 2,000$ GST tax credit. Quebec Provincial gives a 2,000$ PST credit, that they did not give out a year ago.

Hopefully this will sway some buyers from buying the Smart For Two, that now outnumber Prius in my area.

Nope. Foreign exchange calculations just got a whole lot easier, at least for a little while, until the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar. :)

I bought mine last October and paid $28000 including taxes for a used 2004. It had 60,000 km. A great buy for me but wish I could have bought a new one for 22,000 USD like my friends to the South can.

That would be the Queen's English. As Americans, we're the ones doing it differently.

    1 Canadian dollar = 0.972006 U.S. dollars

    as of today on google

Actually the car should even be cheaper then they have it priced when compared to the USA.

Yeah, the Canadian Dollar really shot up (and/or the US Dollar really dropped) after the interest rate drop in the US. I can't wait until it reaches parity! :p

lol... you got a list of what you wanna get from the US? :p

    For no other reason..

Toyota had to narrow the price-gap between U.S.A. and Canada, they had no choice.
I bought my Prius in June in Oregon and saved $12,000! I guess with this new price change I only saved $7000-$9500, still worth the very small hassle I had to import it.

Toyota does honour the warranty, if I bought a Honda they do not. It is explicitly written in the respective Warranties. The Toyota warranty is North American-wide, Honda’s is not, it is just a USA warranty for cars sold in USA. There were 65,000 US cars imported into Canada in the past twelve months, with Free-Trade it is simple to do.

The so-called extra $2500 of included options is the same as the Touring version in rhe USA, but the catch is the Touring version only adds $900 to the price in the US. I know this because my Prius is the Touring model. They shouldn't B.S. us, should they?

It is an excellent car wherever you buy it from.

Shows you the discount they get even on packages (i.e the Touring upgrade). I can assure you that the wheels, HIDs and spoiler don't cost $900.
