I had bought the Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement, but after just receiving the agreement, and reading into it, I was thinking I may cancel it, seems like too many things they are gonna hassle you with if you file a claim. Plus it says I have 30 days to cancel to get all but $25 back, and reviewing my paperwork, they have it listed at a higher price then discussed as they were changing APR rates and payments to make it sound appetizing. But for $1525 plus I think the Gap $895, I believe both of these fall under the cancellation I will put this $2400 on the payment of the car, as I think they will issue a check to me. It says to take to agreement book to the dealership to cancel it. Anyone know about if the GAP is cancelable as well as part of this or if its something different.

    Thanks Ron in KY

Well I cancelled it today at the dealer ship, there is several loop holes, and I would suggests anyone considering the VSA, I guess you can buy it up to your 36,000 miles or 3 years is still in effect, cause when you purchase it with the vehicle, you have 30 days to cancel, but you also paid sales tax on it and that is not refundable they said, and they prorate it based on your miles you have driven, so they stick it to you in many ways. so its not a true 30 day return policy minus $25.

Your post got me thinking, and after discussing it with the Mrs. we went in and cancelled ours this weekend as well. I plan to trade the car in within a year and didnt think about it when buying. Luckily for me, the paperwork had not been sent off yet (just purchased last thurs), and they just had us re-sign modified forms. 1900 warranty + 800 extended maintenance plan....lets just say what we owe is MUCH less now. :)

    Glad I did it really.

I got the vsa. What is the Gap?
I'm still in the 30 days. What specifically made you cancel it? I don't know a lot about cars but it looks detailed to me

We got it on ours because we both drive 180 miles a day(combined), 5 days a week. What is your reservation on having the PVSA?

Cheap insurance. I work for Toyota and I bought a vsaa for my Prius c. Wait ill one of these turkeys are out of comprehensive coverage at 36 k miles and a big electrical or mechanical hybrid component fails. We will see who gets the last laugh. The warranty price is negotiable. Toyota is a great car, better than most but are designed by human beings. They will eventually fail somewhere.what's 2000 over 5 years?400 a year? A dollar a day over 5 years? I'm sleeping fine

I am cancelling my 7 year, 100k Platinum VSA I bought with my c for $1650. I thought I was getting a good deal but I found the same warranty with Midwest Toyota in Kansas for $999. I thought I was getting a good deal because I talked them into $200 less than MSRP for the VSA, guess I was wrong!

I would recommend not buying the warranty at the time you buy the car. You have 36k miles to buy it anyway. When you are ready to buy contact Troy from this forum and save a lot of money.

I cancelled my PVSA and GAP (guaranteed asset protection) throu toyota finance directly. My understanding is that as long as you are within 30 days for PVSA and 60 days for GAP you don't get charged anything and get a full refund. However if you have financed it through Toyota, your account will get credited but your monthly payment amount will not change. In other words you will continue to pay the monthly amount you signed for when you bought the car but since principle is now less, your car will be paid for sooner.

I plan to repurchase the PVSA later but this time at a much better rate.

My dealership said they were giving me a deal if I grabbed it at time of sale.
The only deal with the prius at the time.

    They were not kidding.

    I got platinum 6yr/75k for $900 w/ $0 deductible
    Normal pricing suggests over $1300

I also purchased my VSA when I bought the car. I paid $1200 for the 7yr/100K miles option with no deductible. Is that a good price or should I cancel it?

The sales tax not being refundable irks me. Does anyone know if this is actually true or if it's just a PIA for the dealer and they just tell us this ? Doesn't really make sense. It's something you actually didn't use or buy in the end. If you take something back to Walmart you get everything back, including tax. I'm not saying this isn't true but it doesn't seem fair and shouldn't be legal.

I haven't gotten my C 3 yet. Friday I have to check with the dealer for an update on what's on the boat. Of course I have to be difficult and get it in Summer Rain Metallic with SR & AW., but any who, I was looking at the standard warranty given with the C on the toyota page: http://www.toyota.com/priusc/warranty.html and its' 3yrs/36,000 miles, power train is 6yrs/60,000 and Hybrid related parts 8yrs/100,000 miles. My main concern is the costly hybrid related parts, but if standard is 8yrs/100,000 miles, then I don't think it is really worth the extended warranty.

The extended warranty doesn't cover the hybrid parts. It brings the coverage of the regular stuff up to 100,000 miles.

So are you saying you can buy a Platinum VSA at any Toyota dealership who is willing to add it on later at an agreed-upon price? If so, I'll be calling Midwest Toyota in Kansas. Why not, right?

I am sorry guys I sold my Prius back in OCT and got a 2012 Toyota Camry SE but I hope I am welcome here all the same and have been coming here for a long time but wanted to point something out.

If you have GEICO for your car you can get something called Mechanical Breakdown Insurance and the deductible is only $250. I pay $44 every 6 months for each car I have and you can get it with any new car you just got as long as it has less then 15,000 miles on it. This takes it up to 100K miles so I found it a lot better then the Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement.

5 * $88 year = $440 is a lot cheaper in my book also anything over a 100K in miles is driving for free.

    ------------------

Here is the info from GEICO

Multi-Risk is a package of coverages that includes Comprehensive, Collision and Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI). MBI coverage protects you from expensive auto repair bills when your car experiences a mechanical failure. MBI is usually much more affordable than the Extended Warranty offered by your car dealership and in some instances offers more protection.

Varying deductibles are available for the Comprehensive and Collision portions of the package; a $250 deductible applies to MBI.

You should add Multi-Risk protection to your policy as soon as possible after the car is purchased. GEICO Multi-Risk can only be added if the vehicle was purchased or leased from the dealer within the last 15 months, has an odometer reading of 15,000 miles or less, and you are the first title holder.

Multi-Risk coverage expires once the vehicle is 7 years old or reaches 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
