    By my calculation we are only about 10K left before the tax credit runs out. The good news is that it goes from the end of the quarter that they reach 60K total units/manufacturer + 1 quarter. So it looks like people ordering one today with an appx. 3 month wait will still get the full credit. Glad I got mine last week!

    How did you come up with that number? Just over 30K in US sales for the Prius by the end of April. AFAIK it's 60K per model not per manufacturer. Since production is down due to parts being used for the Camry, we aren't likely to see 60K units sold until the end of August. Which means full tax credit for anyone who buys this year.

    [EDIT] Oops, my bad. It is 60K per manufacturer. Never mind. :unsure:

    RX400H: 7997
    GS450H: 141
    Camry: 86
    Highlander: 11,649
    Prius: 30,357
    =======
    Total: 50,230

    It's lame that it's per manufacturer... seems like a handout to the US companies who didn't have the foresight and put all thier eggs into big honking SUV's

    The 60K number is per manufacturer. In this case Lexus and Toyota combine. Then the rest of the rule is that the 100% credit is available to purchasers throughout the fiscal(?) quarter that the 60K number is hit, plus one more quarter. Assuming the number is hit this quarter, you have until Sept to still be eligible.
    Then another point that may need clarification is do you have to take delivery or just order before that date? I think you have to actually take delivery.

    Correct... it's per manufacturer, so both the Toyota and Lexus groups combine. That seems so lame... it should at least be per model, and reality there should be no limit on number of units. All that does is make it a bit more fair for the US manufacturers who are so far behind the hybrid market. Why make it fair? GM had thier chance to be in on the technology and passed... now they are in deep $hit. With the current gas crunch, congress should extend it indefinitely (see my other posting on a real energy policy).

    Once a manufacturer has reached 60,000 units, the rebate is available until the end of that quarter plus one additional quarter. I believe that is calender quarters although most companies (does Toyota?) end thier quarter at the same time as the calendar (although may be off in when they start thier FY). So assuming the current rate, Toyota/Lexus will easily sell 10,000 this quarter, which ends June 30. Then it goes one additional quarter (to September 30) before the 50% reduction. So depending on the dealer, color, options, etc, a car ordered in the next month should have no problem getting the credit. I got my (silver, package 8) in a week, but I think that was luck (although the dealer called me the day AFTER I picked mine up and told me they found one that matched my deposit and I could have it in 2 days). Otherwise, they stated a 3 month wait for an "ordered" one. BTW, if toyota was smart, they would force deliveries of #60,000 after June 1 (sell 100 less in this quarter). It would initially look like a bad quarter, but they can show an order backlog of the rest of the units.

    You must actually take delivery (i.e. it has to be "sold"). I guess you could sign the paperword and fork over all the money to the dealer before the car came in, but I doubt the dealer would go for that as well as it being pretty silly.
