My local dealer wants $9.00 + tax (9%) in Santa Monica, CA per quart . I could get a gallon of Mobil 1 for $27 + tax + gas.

What are you paying for toyota oil and should I just run mobile 1? It's for a gen II, a friends car.

    Thx!

Don't let the Dealer hold you up. It's just oil.
Use Mobile 1, or any other 0-20 synthetic oil and you will be fine. A lot of people want to rant about oil and I am sure you will get a lot of advice, but again any oil that meets the Specs. will do just fine.

Cheers DickD. I swear though others have paid like $6 for toyota oil. I'm also curious if I'm getting fleeced.

I have been paying $5.35 per quart for the Toyota 0W20 oil, part number 00279-0WQTE-01.

It's very strange to see higher US prices. Doubly considering it's for (smaller) US quart...

From our nearby dealership Toyota 0W20 is around $6Can per liter. Sometimes a little under, sometimes a little over.

For starters, try a second dealership, that seems really steep.

I think its just the area, I have tried another dealer and it was more expensive  I picked up a toyota oem oil filter today and gasket (crush washer) and it was $8.15 out the door.

The filters cost about the same up here. From my latest part's invoice, all Canadian $'s:

    liter of Toyota 0W20: $5.65
    filter: $8.22
oil pan drain bolt washer: $0.95
