the base price for the 06 went up from the 05 price, strange it's showing the 05 as more expensive.

Do you really mean to mix 2006 and 2005 dates?

The $185 difference is probably the floor mats. You need to add that into the "build and price your prius" on the options page... and coincindently... they are $185.

I'm not the one mixing the dates. That is part of my question, when I go to toyota.com/prius site, it talks about the 2006, when I click on build and price your Prius the web page that comes up is 2005 model. What gives?

This is my first post too, so hopefully it makes sense.

What you are seeing is the 2005 price including the delivery/processing/handling fee (for GST - the distributer for Texas and Oklahoma region). For some reason this region hasn't updated their website for the 2006 Prius. If you check the build your Toyota is showing the 2005 and the colors and packages are for 2005 as well.

I found a work-around for this the other day. The URL for the page includes the year. Just change the 2005 to 2006 and you'll get to the 2006 page. The MSRP will be high again, they are still adding the delivery fee.

These seems to be some confusion on tax credits on the prius hybrid
I,m told credits are $2000 now but will be reduced to $500 as of jan 1 2006.
I'm buying o and houl take dlivey thursday 12/29 in Atlanta Ga.

Welcome to the confusion.

Disregard the $500. The $2000 DEDUCTION (not credit)---merely a subtraction from your income---will be replaced 1/1 by a much bigger (if you qualify) CREDIT estimated, in the case of the Prius, to be worth $3150.

Depending on what tax bracket you're in, the $2000 deduction should net you about $600 on your taxes. If you took delivery three days later, you could save about $2550 more (again, if your income weren't so high as to put you in Alternative Minimum Tax territory).

If you qualify for the '06 credit, will your dealer hold the car over for 3 days? I'll split the $2550 with ya. B) (Of course, you won't see the credit until you file 2006 taxes NEXT year.)

The $2000 is not a tax credit, it's a deduction from gross income, so you don't get the full $2000. What you get depends on your tac bracket. Delay your delivery until after the 1st and you will get a true, dollar for dollar, tax credit of a bit over $3100, i.e., a credit is applied against the tax that you owe, including what has already been deducted.

Agree with Jack 06. I paid (in full) for my 06 (red pkg 7) with the dealer agreeing to wait the couple of days till Jan 1 to print all the paperwork and deliver the car. I think this close to the New Year, most dealers will do that.
And with that nice tax credit, it sure is worth the wait.
