Hi Prius people!!! I've been a long time admirer of the design and engineering of the Prius but was always apprehensive due to price tag and the newness of the technology. About 2 years ago, I bought a 4x4 Tacoma. I loved the truck, but it was expensive to own as my payment was $441 and gas was running me about $200 per month. I decided to trade it in. I originally was looking at a Camry but ultimately decided to go for the gusto and get the Prius. I got $25k for my trade in and beat the dealership down to a price of $23,225 on the Prius 2 (MSRP of 28,500) plus 0% financing. So I ultimately lowered my payment by $100 and I expect to save $125-150 per month on gas. No brainer right?

I went ahead and ordered a Curt trailer hitch and cargo carrier. I'll post some pics of it once it comes in.

Anyways, here is a pic of my new ride!

Welcome aboard. Love the seaglass color.
You should save a ton in gas. In perspective, I drive 1400 miles a month or so and spend about..$70-$75 in gas.

Congrats on the purchase. You will love driving past gas stations. Great color choice also!

Yep, a no-brainer if the truck is not required for business.

I cannot quite grasp the gas savings though. If you are correct in calculating that the Prius (for the same distance ?) will cost $50 - 75 instead of $200, that suggests the Tacoma used 3 - 4 times the fuel/distance. If we call the Prius 50 mpg, that makes the Tacoma 12.5 - 19 mpg. True ?

Yep. True. I was getting 16-17 mpg.

Ouch. Did you have the biggest, baddest model on the planet ? Or is most of your driving in a congested city ?

I toured the plant in San Antonio, TX, where the Tacoma and Tundra are built. Awesome lean line. They got the process down.

I'll take your word for it; I have little idea what your description means.

Anyway, congrats on the Prius, and welcome to PriusChat.

Welcome! I've run into a number of folks tired of the truck & SUV world who are buying sedans & hatches again. I had this discussion with my future sister-in-law whose DD was a Nissan Pathfinder. She's passing that on to her son and now has a late-model G37. (They live in TN where the state brand is Nissan.)

    God I loved driving trucks.

I do enjoy not paying the gas for the trucks.

At 3400 miles a Month I can't even imagine how much my gas bill would still be with my 13mpg Tundra. (I dumped it for a Camry when I knew I was taking the current Job, and later figured out I should have got the Prius)

Have you seen the Tundra Rock Warrior? Kinda of Toyota's answer to Ford's Raptor

Well. I finally got those "regrets" that I mentioned not having in my original post. I live in the mountains on a road that can get pretty rough with washouts and muddy spots. Long story short, I almost lost the Prius over a cliff when the traction control kicked in and wouldn't allow my wheels to spin. That's got to be the most stupid "safety" feature of all time.

    I bought a Subaru Outback today. :)

Up until a month ago, I could have been a Prius salesman. There is so much about this car to like, but I finally has to accept that the Prius doesn't fit my lifestyle.
