i currently have a 2011 package 3. it has navigation and JBL. i went to the dealer and found out that JBL and the same size navigation can only be found in package 4 and PiP Advanced. i checked out the screen of the regular PiP and wasn't too thrilled about it when i compared it to my current package 3. the resolution in my package 3 seemed better and the screen size i believe is larger. the JBL speakers are nice as well, though i didn't get to hear what the regular PiP sounded like. i could opt for the advanced PiP but i'm not sure it's worth paying the extra $ since the regular PiP has everything i need except the JBL and nicer navi - which my current prius has. i don't care for the leather.

i have about 108 mile commute. trying to see if there's an advantage on getting a PiP aside from the HOV sticker. i'm usually getting 55+MPG and mainly drive on highway. i love my prius and it still runs great at 80K miles. just trying to see what other members think if they were in my situation. my other consideration is a 2015 package 4 with solar. thoughts?

You'd better hurry if you want hov, they are all pretty much gone and the dealers that have them are starting to charge msrp for them

What is wrong with the 2011? Sounds like your mpg is great. IMHO I would wait on the second generation of PIP. I traded a 2010 package 3 back in 2013 so I could get lithium batteries. It is personal preference. Is your car paid for? Best of luck!!!!

nothing wrong with it. just the miles are getting up there. i wanted to get rid of it before the value isn't as good. it's not paid off but i got equity on it. the mpg is great. i was wondering if it's worth trading in for a PiP. it's memorial day weekend and they have plenty of deals going on. also, my registration is due in july. figured it might be a good time to consider a trade in. i may just keep it until labor day and see if there's deals then or the 2016 comes out.

did you notice better mpg in the PiP, by how much?

On flat freeways the PiP mileage is pretty much the same and the regular Prius. However, if there are significant hills, especially with non-freeway driving, the PiP has an advantage. When I go on 200+ mile trips with freeway, back roads and hills I get about 62 mpg where I used to get about 52 mpg with the Prius 3. The difference is because you charge the large battery going down hills and use that energy effectively on the flatlands. Of course that doesn't translate into large $ savings as you are already doing well in the Prius 3.

nice, thanks for sharing. so it sounds like at least 10+% increase in mpg. there is a large hill on my commute where my battery often gets full on the down hill part. i also hit a lot of traffic but the hybrid seems to be doing its thing well.

i was worried about the warranty on the battery but i recently found out that it covers up to 150K miles for california owners. odd that it varies in other states. i may keep it and check for labor day sales. the HOV sticker is nice though. nonetheless, it will be another prius. i did test drive the ford c-max energi and liked it with some little gripes.

do you do much local running round on weekends and evenings? pip is great for that, on top of the mpg boost on your commute. you could always go aftermarket nav on the base.

no, not much. it's mainly a mon-fri commute car. the kids are with us during weekend running around so we take the sienna. ya, i considered aftermarket. i'll have to see what the difference is with the non-jbl and my current package 3 with jbl. i can probably live with the screen difference. i have an appt later today with a dealer who offered $27K for the PiP base model.

Long commute, I would only do Prius or PIP. The others do not do well on gas; Compare Side-by-Side

Bought both our PiP's at Carson Toyota. Worth the drive, they gave the best price over all the dealers in Long Beach and surrounding areas. Good luck.

Trading a car that isn't paid off doesn't make financial sense. Pay off the car, save the cash, then see what's on the market a few years from now.

I am somewhat of an audiophile, and I'm surprised at how good the "base" Prius speakers are in my PiP. I'm at least content enough to not have any desire to replace them. I too would have preferred the Advanced model, primarily for the better screen/Entune/navigation system (this is really the weak point these days), and they other techie features, but I really dislike the SoftTex seats and the price just couldn't be justified.

My Gen2 Prius had JBL. I liked it, but the base PiP performs equally I'd say, so don't make that the sole reason to get an Advanced.

What?!? You're not waiting for 2016? Really? Both the Prius and apparently the PiP will be updated for 2016.

But yeah, I can see those HOV stickers being very compelling.
