First off, I have driven it about 50 miles and am averaging every bit of 48mpgs. Can't wait for what the numbers will be if this is the break-in period.

Secondly, it comes with the proximity key which is pretty cool. But it is no where near as cool as the one that came with my '13 Cruze that I traded in for other reasons. On the Cruze I would walk away and it would lock itself. I can't for the life of me figure out why they wouldn't have done that with the Prius... a lot easier than having to dig around your pockets to find the key.

Looks like reading some old threads this isn't an option... but maybe it is as I haven't even figured out how to navigate all of the menus. For example I can't even figure out how to get to the screen where you could input fuel costs... I know it's in the manual, but I am a dude...and you all know how that works.

I don't know if it does this for all, but on my persona you don't have to lock the car with the key, I just touch the sensor on the handle when leaving and it will lock.

Yeah, just touch the door handle on the grooves to lock. And RTFM!

The II only has drivers door smart key system, so you'd have to touch the sensor on the drivers door. And there's no break in period for the Prius. It's ready to go 50+ mpg right out the box. There's only a break in period for the driver.

I've been driving a Prius since March 2012, and have never cracked open the manual tbh. Never had to, every info I needed was found here in this message board.

    Welcome:)

Technically there is an engine break in period, it is in that manual you never read.

In terms of gas mileage, the tires have a break in period. Every time you get new tires, mileage will drop for about 5000 miles. This includes the new tires that come with the new car.

The displayed fuel mileage is always ~5% high. ( A feel good thing, Toyota?)

The only fuel mileage that matters is the ol' Paper and Pencil method,,,
And even that should be corrected for odometer error. And repeated tank fills averaged to be really accurate.

Sorry to rain on your shiny new parade......

@ Bill: I'll take 45.6mpg on the first couple gallons of the first tank of gas... I plan on tracking the mileage with Fuelly as well.

You can also just press the door lock button on the inside of the door as you get out of the car... that's what I do and then you don't have to close the door and touch the outside door handle.

And you can change the SKS unlock to "global" unlock (so it unlock all doors) if you wish.

Walk away and it locks itself is passive locking. I personally hate that.

I think by now, you understand the SMART key?

That is what I do 95% of the time, I only use the outside lock if I have the driver's closed and am getting stuff out of the hatch. I almost NEVER use the fob, that stays in my pocket 100% of the time

Yep! mine stays in my pants pocket, comes out only when I wash my pants. Which I think is about every three weeks or so! If I remember!

I have learned you can't depend on fuelly, either. The best mpg I've gotten as calculated on fuelly is 55 mpg. It is currently displaying my average mpg as 59 mpg!

Doesn't the hatch on the v have a lock button? The hatch on the liftback does. (or is that the outside lock you mean?)

On the v, only the Five has 3 door SKS, Two and Three only have 1 door SKS so you can only lock them at the driver's door. <pout>
